National Park Service in West Orange, New Jersey is hiring a Maintenance Worker for a Career- Seasonal appointment. The role involves routine maintenance with hand tools, cleaning and servicing restrooms and visitor facilities, and handling incoming shipments with basic vehicle support at park sites.

Additional duties include carpentry repairs, constructing and repairing doors, shelves, trim and cabinets, painting and staining surfaces, and using standard painting tools.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans and services chemical toilets, restrooms, and visitor facilities, also collects trash.
  • Receives, unloads and processes incoming shipments.
  • Operates a light truck to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites.
  • Operates equipment to load and unload supplies and light equipment.
  • Performs carpentry repairs.
  • Constructs, installs, repairs and replaces doors, shelves, supply racks, hardware, frame structures, windows, trim and cabinets.
  • Paints and stains picnic tables and trash barrels.
  • Mixes and stirs paints, moves drop cloths and scaffolds, and cleans walls in preparation for painting.
  • Utilizes scrapers, sandpaper, steel wool, brushes, rollers, ladders, air and airless sprayers.

Job description

You will serve as a Maintenance Worker with National Park Service. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately early September to late July, and you will be in a non-pay status from early August to late August the first year of service.

Key Responsibilities

As a Maintenance Mechanic, you will perform the following duties: Performs routine maintenance using hand tools. Cleans and services chemical toilets, restrooms, and visitor facilities, also collects trash. Receives, unloads and processes incoming shipments. Operates a light truck to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites. Operates equipment to load and unload supplies and light equipment. Performs carpentry repairs.

Requirements & Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Federal Wage System (FWS) positions.
