This position provides maintenance service, support, and upkeep of the City’s grounds, facilities, infrastructure, and equipment in order to provide an attractive, safe, and healthy environment for the City of Riverside.
Primary responsibilities include providing maintenance and repair of publicly owned & operated facilities, properties, & equipment; performing snow removal and mowing of grounds; litter control; pool maintenance; assisting with setup and cleanup of special events; assessing electrical, mechanical, & plumbing repair needs and making repairs as qualified; performing other general building and grounds maintenance.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, valid driver’s license, and a clean driving record. Must be able to acquire a Class B CDL certification within 6 months of hire. Must be able to perform heavy work requiring exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, 75 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds regularly. Some experience in maintenance service and repairs in the areas of plumbing, mowing, carpentry, painting, electrical, and general vehicle servicing.
The ideal candidate will have some knowledge of the equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance as well as those used to do minor repairs. Some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions. Skilled in the proper and safe operation of power tools and equipment. Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to a work schedule. Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions. Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
The schedule for this position is generally a 40 hour work week, Monday-Friday, but will occasionally be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays during inclement weather or special events. New hires are eligible for a $3,000 retention incentive paid in 3 equal installments over 2 years.
