Job summary

The Lower Heart Water Board is seeking a part-time Facilities & Levee Maintenance Technician to help preserve our levee system and related facilities. The role involves outdoor work, equipment operation, and seasonal maintenance to keep infrastructure safe and reliable.

You will inspect, operate, and maintain pumps and valves, perform safety-focused tasks, and maintain records while coordinating with partners. Applicants should be prepared for varied hours and weather conditions.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Experience in general maintenance or related field preferred.
• ND Commercial Applicator’s License or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Conduct annual inspections of levee and confined spaces (manholes).
• Maintain and operate valves, pumps, and motorized equipment such as mower, skid steer, and front-end loader.
• Patrol the dike for debris and safety concerns; perform seasonal maintenance (mowing, trimming, snow removal, light repairs).
• Keep accurate inventory and maintenance records; ensure safe vermin control and pesticide application.

The Lower Heart Water Board is seeking a dependable and skilled Facilities & Levee Maintenance Technician to help us maintain the integrity of our levee system and related facilities.

This part‑time role is ideal for a self‑starter who enjoys hands‑on work, appreciates variety in their day, and values serving their community in a meaningful way. Hours will vary based on seasonal needs and weather conditions.

What You’ll Do:

You'll work closely with the Lower Heart Water Board and key partners like the Corps of Engineers to:

• Conduct annual inspections of the levee and confined spaces (manholes)
• Maintain and operate valves, pumps, and motorized equipment (mower, skid steer, front‑end loader, etc.)
• Patrol the dike for debris and safety concerns
• Perform seasonal maintenance: mowing, trimming, weeding, snow removal, light repairs, and more
• Keep accurate inventory and maintenance records
• Ensure safe, compliant vermin control and pesticide application
• Maintain a clean and organized shop and work areas

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid North Dakota Driver’s License
• Experience in general maintenance or a related field preferred
• North Dakota Commercial Applicator’s License (or willingness to obtain)

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 100 lbs occasionally
• Comfortable with confined space entry
• Vision requirements include near and depth perception
• Willingness to be on‑call during emergencies and weather events
