Cameron County is seeking a Maintenance Worker to perform landscape, building maintenance and grounds keeping under supervision. Responsibilities include mowing, trimming, trash removal, restroom upkeep, loading materials, and assisting the construction crew.
Work is outdoors and may involve driving county vehicles; weekend, holiday, and evening work required. A high school diploma or GED is preferred; a Texas driver's license is required; bilingual English/Spanish ability is important.
Pay Plan: 105 - $29,926.00 minimum salary
The overall purpose and general responsibility. Under supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, will perform such functions as general landscaping, building maintenance and grounds keeping. Is a non-supervisory position. Will include the performance of hard manual labor tasks and may include other tasks such as; daily raking of the beach with John Deere tractor and emptying trash barrels with garbage truck, picking up litter from beaches and park grounds.
Reports and correlates projects with Maintenance Supervisor, Communicates with the public, park guests, concessionaires, office clerks and other co-workers.
A high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate preferred.
Must have experience in custodianship and must enjoy working with the public.
Valid State of Texas Driver's License
Must be able to follow oral instructions. Must be able to use power and hand tools, to perform strenuous work in the outdoor. Ability to communicate effectively, both in English and Spanish. Must be able to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with other employees.
Physical requirements may include lifting /carrying up to 50 lbs. Subject to handling, sitting walking, standing, bending, reaching and twisting to perform the essential job functions.
On special emergencies or occasional projects may require working in other county parks as assigned. Working conditions are primarily outdoors. Will be required to drive county owned vehicles and other equipment as needed. Weekend, Holiday, and evening work required.
This position is subject to a six (6) month probationary period prior to Civil Service eligibility; Must submit to a drug and alcohol evaluation.
