Job summary

City of Stamford seeks a skilled HVAC technician to maintain, repair, install and calibrate heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems in city and school facilities. The role includes reading blueprints, advising on technical matters and supervising helpers as needed.

Requirements include CT licensing as an Unlimited Contractor (S-1) or Unlimited Journeyman (S-2), EPA Universal Refrigerant Technician certification and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of the principles and concepts of steam, forced air, hydronic and air conditioning systems.
• Skill in the use of tools relating to heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment.
• Ability to interpret wiring schematics and diagrams.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral directions.

Responsibilities

• Performs related duties as required.
• Repairs and maintains fuel burning, ventilation and air conditioning equipment.
• Installs heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment.
• Installs piping, wiring and any hardware related to H.V.A.C. equipment.
• Calibrates any and all boiler room and temperature control equipment.
• Changes and evacuates air conditioning systems and adjusts combustion equipment.
• Reads blueprints and schematic drawings pertinent to H.V.A.C. equipment.
• Advises supervisors on technical matters.
• Exercises supervision over semi-skilled helper, when necessary.
• Maintains adequate parts inventory.
• Performs emergency repairs after normal working hours, when required.

At time of appointment, EPA Certification as a Universal Refrigerant Technician and a valid driver’s license.

SCOPE OF EXAMINATION:
