Job summary

The City of Bakersfield is seeking an entry-level Maintenance Worker for the Water Department and Development Services Department. Under direct supervision, perform routine, semiskilled maintenance in canals, drainage basins, parks, sewers, streets, and related areas, with a wide range of equipment operation.

Applicants must have one year of experience operating light/medium duty vehicles and hold a California Class C license; a Class B license must be obtained within six months.

Qualifications

• One year of experience operating light/medium duty vehicles (e.g., dump trucks, water trucks, small tractors).
• Possession of a valid California Class “C” driver’s license; Class “B” license must be obtained within six months.

Responsibilities

• Maintain water canals and storm drainage basins.
• Maintain parks/trees, sewers, water mains, streets, and traffic painting.
• Operate a broad range of equipment as required.
• Be on-call for emergencies after hours and work overtime.
