The City of Pasadena, TX is seeking a qualified mechanic to maintain and repair City vehicles and equipment, including gasoline, CNG and diesel units. The role involves diagnosing issues, planning procedures, ordering parts, and coordinating with a team to keep fleet assets in safe, working condition.
Applicants should have a certificate or equivalent, two years of related experience, and a Texas Class B license with your own tools.
Duties: This position performs various types of mechanical repairs to all City owned vehicles and equipment, such as major brake repairs, engine overhauls, transmission overhauls, tune‑ups, and any and all repairs necessary to keep vehicles and equipment safe and in good working conditions. Make major and minor repairs on all City‑owned gasoline, CNG and diesel‑powered equipment and vehicles, including garbage trucks, fire trucks, backhoes, mowers, generators, lift pump engines, etc. Inspect and diagnose problems/malfunctions on City vehicles and equipment. Plan work procedures for each project and determine parts needed. Complete and enter work orders into the computer. Coordinate work with other team members. Maintain tools and keep equipment clean and in proper repair. Diagnose electrical wiring issues and install emergency equipment (light bars, strobe lights, sirens) on Police, Fire and City vehicles. Keep work area clean. Attend schools and workshops to further education. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements. Work the assigned schedule and comply with City timekeeping and attendance policy. Perform any and all duties assigned.
One year certificate from college or technical school; two years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Texas Driver's License. Must have own tools. PREFERRED: ASE certifications in Engine Repair, Electronics and at least one additional ASE certification required; or equivalent. Fire Fighting apparatus experience. Valid Texas Class "B" Driver's License.
$22.50 per hour
