Maintenance Technician--Steel Service Center

Salary Range: $25.00 To $38.00 Hourly

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Technicianwith direct experience in a steel service center environment. You will be responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance of steel processing machinery and facility equipment. This role is critical to keeping production operations running safely and at peak efficiency. You will report to the Maintenance Supervisor and work cross-functionally with production operators on the floor.

COMPENSATION & DETAILS

• Pay Rate: $25.00 - $38.00 per hour (based on experience)
• Location: Dearborn, MI
• Schedule: 1st & 2nd Shift with overtime availability

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on steel service center machinery including slitting lines, cut-to-length lines, straighteners, coil cars, reels, and material handling equipment
• Troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on steel processing equipment
• Install and repair PLC-controlled systems, transformers, control boxes, and electrical components on production machinery
• Install and maintain hydraulic systems including directional and flow control valves, oil coolers, and custom-assembled hydraulic hose assemblies
• Install and service pneumatic equipment including air compressors, dryers, solenoid valves, and pneumatic tooling
• Operate welding equipment and cutting torch; fabricate guards, covers, and replacement components as needed
• Dismantle defective machinery, assess root cause, and install new or rebuilt parts
• Visually inspect equipment daily for signs of wear, misalignment, or impending failure
• Clean and lubricate machine components including bearings, gears, and drive shafts
• Maintain and repair building structure and facility infrastructure
• Complete accurate daily maintenance and repair logs
• Communicate proactively with production operators and the Maintenance Supervisor on equipment status and issues
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience, with at least 2 years in a steel service center or metals processing environment
• Working knowledge of steel service center machinery and equipment (slitters, CTL lines, coil handling, straighteners, etc.)
• Hands-on experience with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
• Familiarity with ISO/QS operating standards
• Crane and forklift operation certification or demonstrated experience
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and equipment manuals
• Proficiency with standard maintenance tools and electrical test equipment
• Basic computer skills for maintenance logging and communication
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. regularly; occasional lifting over 25 lbs.
• Availability to work overtime on an as-needed basis

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to fabricate components without drawings
• Prior experience in a high-volume steel slitting or processing operation
• Demonstrated lockout/tagout (LOTO) program compliance and safety leadership
• Electrical troubleshooting experience at the component and circuit level
• Knowledge of coil processing tolerances and equipment alignment standards
