Responsibilities

  • Perform minor repairs/replacements of plumbing fixtures, valves and devices in South Hall restrooms and common areas.
  • Perform minor electrical repairs and appliance maintenance throughout South Hall.
  • Perform minor carpentry work to repair windows, doors and furniture in South Hall rooms and offices.
  • Prepare material lists for work orders and estimate time for jobs.
  • Hang sheetrock/wallboard and apply tape/spackling for painted surfaces.
  • Hang doors and maintain door hardware and entryways.
  • Replace damaged ceiling and floor tiles in South Hall.
  • Conduct concrete/masonry repairs on walkways, entrances and exterior structures.
  • Assist in moving furniture and event setups.
  • Serve on University committees and perform other duties as assigned.

POSITION SUMMARYUnder the general supervision of the Manager, Facilities Operations, performs building repairs, preventative maintenance, and minor carpentry work dedicated to South Hall and its surrounding immediate premises.CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESPerform minor repairs and/or replacement of plumbing fixtures, valves, and other devices within South Hall restrooms, common areas, and facilities.Perform minor repairs and/or replacement of electrical fixtures, devices, and appliances throughout South Hall as required.Perform minor carpentry work as required to repair windows, doors, and furniture in South Hall rooms, offices, and hallways.Prepare materials lists for work orders and estimate time required for jobs in South Hall.Hang sheetrock/wallboard and apply tape and spackling compound to achieve a finished paintable surface.Hang doors and maintain door hardware, locks, and entryways in South Hall.Replace damaged ceiling tiles and floor tiles throughout South Hall.Perform concrete and masonry repairs on South Hall walkways, entrances, and exterior structures.Assist in the moving of furniture and with event set-ups within South Hall.Serve on University committees as requested.Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.SUPERVISION RECEIVEDRoutine assignments are performed independently following University and departmental policies and procedures.SUPERVISION EXERCISEDWorks independently using own judgment.POSITION QUALIFICATIONS / SPECIFICATIONSAble to communicate both orally and in writing.Valid Florida Driver's License.Three years of experience in the building maintenance field.Must be familiar with general building maintenance trades.Ability to operate power saws, drills, grinders, sanders, and other power hand tools connected with the maintenance and carpentry trade.Ability to work 1st shift hours as assigned.May be required to lift, push, or pull up to 70 lbs.May be exposed to chemicals, mechanical, or electrical hazards. May be exposed to dust, fumes, or odoriferous working conditions.May be required to work outdoors in inclement weather.Employee is required to wear protective clothing or devices.
