Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the comprehensive operation, inspection, and maintenance of interior and exterior building systems across multiple Tribal Government and Clinical facilities, as well as associated grounds. This includes critical patient care and support areas such as lobbies, waiting areas, restrooms, medical examination rooms, dental operatories, and administrative offices. All work is performed in alignment with standards, ensuring compliance with life safety, infection control, and environmental safety requirements. This position functions as a key liaison within the maintenance department, supporting and coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance activities for facility infrastructure and clinical equipment. Responsibilities include maintaining building systems such as plumbing, HVAC, and electrical in accordance with applicable codes and healthcare regulations (e.g., OSHA, CDC guidelines, and infection prevention standards), as well as assisting with the upkeep of specialized medical and dental equipment. The Maintenance Technician also supports hazard surveillance, documentation, and corrective action processes. The role assists in planning, coordinating, and executing partial or full facility shutdowns, utility interruptions, and emergency response procedures, ensuring continuity of care, safety, and minimal disruption to government and clinical operations.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance

• Assist in the diagnosis, troubleshooting, repair, replacement, and preventive maintenance of plumbing systems, including piping, valves, fixtures, and associated components.
• Supporting the installation, calibration, inspection, and ongoing maintenance of facility and clinical operational equipment, including medical and dental devices, in accordance with manufacturer specifications and regulatory requirements.
• Perform surface preparation and finishing tasks, including drywall repair, patching, taping, texturing, priming, and painting of interior and exterior substrates using appropriate tools, materials, and techniques.
• Assist in the preventive and corrective maintenance of HVAC systems, including air handling units and split systems; tasks include filter replacement, belt adjustments, condenser and evaporator coil cleaning, and inspection/testing of electrical components such as capacitors, contactors, and fuses.
• Inspect, clean, and maintain roof drainage systems, including gutters, downspouts, and area drains, to ensure proper water flow and prevent structural damage or water intrusion.
• Safely lift, transport, stage, and install building materials and fixtures, including doors, cabinetry, drywall panels, and ceiling grid/tile systems, utilizing proper rigging techniques and material handling equipment when required.
• Perform basic electrical troubleshooting and maintenance, including identifying faults in low-voltage and standard electrical systems, replacing switches, receptacles, lighting components, and ensuring compliance with applicable electrical codes and safety standards.
• Assemble and relocate furniture, equipment, and materials using manual handling techniques or mechanical aids (e.g., dollies, pallet jacks), ensuring safe handling practices and minimizing risk of damage or injury.
• Conduct facility condition assessments and communicate findings to management, including identifying deficiencies, recommending corrective actions, and supporting planning for repairs, upgrades, or capital improvements.
• Procure, inventory, and transport tools, materials, and equipment required for maintenance tasks, ensuring proper documentation, storage, and accountability of resources.

Janitorial Support

Help maintain clean, safe, and orderly facilities in accordance with quality standards. Use cleaning equipment and handle chemical agents in compliance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS), manufacturer specifications, and applicable regulatory requirements. Occasional removal and transporting of waste including general, regulated, and potentially biohazardous materials to designated disposal areas. As needed, perform cleaning and disinfection of restrooms, clinical treatment areas, public spaces, and administrative offices.

Landscaping

• Perform planting and removal of vegetation including flowers, shrubs, trees, and grass.
• Inspect, maintain, and service hardscape areas such as walkways, curbs, and parking lots; remove debris and identify potential trip-and-fall or environmental hazards to ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Trim shrubs and trees to promote healthy growth, structural integrity, and aesthetic appearance; perform weed control through manual and mechanical methods.
• Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment to perform mowing, edging, raking, mulching, and seasonal landscape maintenance, ensuring proper care of landscaped areas.
• Mix and apply herbicides, fertilizers, and other landscaping treatments in accordance with manufacturer specifications, SDS guidelines, and regulatory requirements, ensuring safe handling, proper application rates, and environmental compliance.

Safety & Compliance

• Proactively identify, assess, and document workplace hazards, unsafe conditions, and at-risk behaviors; promptly report findings to supervisory personnel in accordance with established incident reporting procedures.
• Maintain strict adherence to privacy and security standards, including safeguarding Protected Health Information (PHI) and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations (e.g., HIPAA) for patients, employees, and visitors.
• Operate tools, equipment, and hazardous materials in accordance with manufacturer specifications, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and established safety protocols to mitigate risk of injury, property damage, or environmental impact.
• Comply with and enforce established safety programs, including OSHA regulations, infection control procedures, and facility-specific policies; implement immediate corrective actions to address identified hazards or non-compliance.
• Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures related to safety, security, and emergency preparedness, including participation in drills, lockout/tagout procedures, and incident response protocols.
• Perform additional safety and compliance-related duties as assigned, supporting continuous improvement of workplace safety programs and risk management initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. Valid California drivers license with a clean driving record (required). At least one (1) year of maintenance experience or equivalent training in fields such as carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, drywall, or painting (preferred). Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to present issues professionally and accept constructive feedback. Ability to maintain professional, courteous relationships with employees, patients, and visitors. Ability to work with minimal disruption to patients while respecting privacy and requests.

Physical Requirements

Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, and use hands. Must frequently lift and move 2050 pounds and occasionally exert up to or exceeding 100 pounds of force. May be required to stoop, reach, and work in confined spaces. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Work Environment

Work is performed across government offices, medical clinics, dental facilities, and outdoor areas.
