Aircraft Sheet Metal Technician – Structural Repairs

Overview
We are seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Mechanic to join our Tropic Ocean Airways team, providing aviation maintenance in a Part 135 operation. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in metal fabrication, corrosion control, repair design and assembly, with the ability to interpret drawing or blueprints and work with various tools and equipment. This role is essential in maintaining and extending the service life of our airframes and components operating in a very corrosive salt water environment.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and repair aircraft sheet metal components using approved methods, thus ensuring an airworthy product.
  • Interpret Structural Repair Manuals (SRM), drawings or blueprints to determine specifications for sheet metal repairs.
  • Assemble and fabricate sheet metal parts using various tools and techniques.
  • Conduct regular inspections of completed work to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Collaborate with team members to enhance production processes and improve efficiency.
  • Maintain a clean and professional work environment to include tool control.

Skills

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting Structural Repair Manuals (SRM), drawings and blueprints.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in corrosion removal, treating and avoidance.
  • Familiarity with airframe construction techniques is advantageous.
  • Ability to operate machinery safely and effectively, adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, particularly in creating repair schemes when OEM manuals give little guidance.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED; technical school or military training in aviation maintenance .
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in aircraft sheet metal, preferably with thinner skinned type aircraft like those found on Cessna Caravan.
  • FAA Airframe and/or Powerplant (A&P) license but not required.
  • Strong knowledge of aircraft structural components and repair techniques.
  • Proficiency with sheet metal tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work from heights and in confined spaces.
  • Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to pass background checks and obtain necessary clearances.

Working Conditions:

  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs.
  • Exposure to loud noises, machinery, and aircraft chemicals.
  • Physically demanding, may require lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, stooping, standing for long periods, and using hand tools.

Salary Range:(Predicated on experience)

No license, but with more than 5 years of Sheet Metal Experience (30 to 35 an hour)

A&P Sheet Metal Experience, with 5 or more years of experience (45 to 65 an hour)
