Job description

Cérélia's newly established Frozen Breakfast Business Unit – US Waffle – is driving an ambitious growth strategy from two manufacturing facilities in Liberty, SC, and Hazelwood, MO. US Waffle is seeking a dynamic and skilled Maintenance Technician to join our team in Liberty, SC.

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment in a food processing environment while meeting objectives for safety, quality, production/delivery, and cost. This position requires proficiency in multiple skill clusters, such as electrical controls, fluid power, mechanical systems, welding, fabrication, and manufacturing processes. The role involves medium to high‑level machine systems troubleshooting and repair and providing technical support across all phases of the operation.

This strategic position will report directly to the Maintenance Manager.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Receive work orders, determine needed tools, equipment, time, manpower, parts, and supplies.
  • Respond to crisis calls and arrive on scene with basic tools and equipment.
  • Read blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Maintain activity records and logs.
  • Observe equipment while in operation to detect malfunctions.
  • Disassemble mechanical equipment, identify faulty or worn parts, replace, reassemble, and test.
  • Test major subsystems or components to localize problems using specialized equipment.
  • Fabricate replacement parts that may require welding, cutting, or sheet metal work.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on various mechanical systems and equipment; install new equipment including utilities (electrical, water, gas, or drain lines).
  • Install, troubleshoot, and maintain mechanical equipment, piping systems, and electrical controls in accordance with manufacturer specifications, local regulations, and US Waffle food safety and security policies.
  • Execute preventive and predictive maintenance schedules on mechanical equipment such as pumps, packaging, slicing, harvest, and cutting equipment.
  • Operate small hand tools and devices used in general mechanical maintenance operations.
  • Apply knowledge of OSHA, GFSI, QF, USDA, and FDA regulations.
    • Adhere to all FDA, USDA, local authority, and GFSI food safety and quality policies and procedures, reporting nonconformities.
    • Adhere to all OSHA safety policies and procedures, reporting nonconformities.
    • Adhere to all GMP policies and procedures, reporting nonconformities.
    • Follow Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out guidelines and practices while performing machine maintenance.
  • Be on‑call 24/7.
  • Actively participate in plant programs and procedures:
    • Observe safety regulations, wear required safety equipment, encourage safe work practices, and correct or report hazards.
    • Maintain progress reports of work orders.
    • Aid in QA investigations into customer complaints, where applicable.
    • Maintain a Master Preventive Maintenance Schedule.
    • Ensure timely execution of repairs to meet customer needs.
    • Support the Emergency Evacuation Plan.
    • Support and maintain all management directives.
    • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives (5S, Kaizen, lean tools, etc.).
  • Monitor wastewater equipment to maintain effluent levels that meet regulatory requirements.
  • Clean and maintain work area after mechanical work daily.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED plus 2+ years of related experience and/or training in industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing, or 4 years’ direct experience in a similar environment.
  • Vocational Diploma, Technical Diploma, or associate degree from a technical maintenance or vocational school (preferred).
  • Ability to function effectively in a team environment and interact productively with all levels of personnel and contractors.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and remain calm.
  • Organized problem solver, able to prioritize in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Capability to operate powered industrial trucks (forklift, genie lift, scissor lift, etc.).
  • Experience with high‑speed packaging machinery and industrial electrical PLCs.
  • Familiarity with sanitary environments is desired.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic systems, and control systems is an asset.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication; excellent command of English.
  • Positive, proactive, and self‑motivated with leadership qualities.
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word) is an asset.
  • Experience working with CMMS software.
  • Ability to read and execute work orders, write daily reports, and translate equipment manuals.

Position Type: Full‑Time Hourly – 40 hours per week with potential for additional shift hours and weekends. Night shift technicians required. Shift pattern: 6:00 pm–6:00 am, 12‑hour shifts, 2 days on‑2 days off‑3 days on rotating.
