Job summary

Allied Steel Buildings is seeking a Maintenance Technician (Mechanical) to uphold the mechanical integrity of production equipment used in structural steel fabrication and component manufacturing. You will perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on hydraulic and pneumatic systems, conveyors, cranes, and related machinery to maximize reliability and minimize downtime.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of industrial maintenance experience in manufacturing, fabrication, automation, or a related environment preferred.
  • Experience maintaining hydraulic, pneumatic, conveyor, crane, and rotating equipment.
  • Experience maintaining automated production equipment, robotics, CNC equipment, or heavy manufacturing machinery preferred.
  • Experience in structural steel fabrication, metal manufacturing, welding operations, or similar industrial environments preferred.
  • Experience working independently during equipment breakdowns and production emergencies required.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training in industrial maintenance or related field a plus.
  • Ability to diagnose complex failures involving interacting mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automation systems.
  • Proficiency in reading mechanical drawings, hydraulic diagrams, pneumatic diagrams, and equipment manuals.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to operators, supervisors, engineers, and vendors.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, rebuild, and install mechanical systems supporting structural steel fabrication and secondary manufacturing operations, including: structural fabrication equipment, automated production machinery, and component manufacturing systems.
  • Repair and service hydraulic, pneumatic, and material handling equipment such as overhead cranes, hoists, conveyors, and transfer systems.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical failures using drawings, schematics, and diagnostic equipment; perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance.
  • Assist with installation, relocation, commissioning, and startup of new production equipment.
  • Communicate equipment status and repair progress to Production and Maintenance leadership.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimize production interruptions and restore operations.

Job Summary:

The Maintenance Technician (Mechanical) is responsible for maintaining the mechanical integrity and reliability of production equipment used throughout structural steel fabrication and component manufacturing operations. This position performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on fabrication equipment, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, overhead cranes, conveyors, material handling equipment, and production machinery to maximize equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and support on‑time production of structural steel assemblies and components.

Working closely with Engineering, Electromechanical Maintenance, and Operations, the Mechanical Maintenance Technician identifies mechanical failures, completes repairs, performs equipment installations, and supports continuous improvement initiatives that improve safety, productivity, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, rebuild, and install mechanical systems supporting structural steel fabrication and secondary manufacturing operations, including:
  • Structural steel fabrication equipment, automated production machinery, and component manufacturing systems.
  • Cold‑forming equipment, hydraulic press brakes, plate processing equipment, and saw systems.
  • Welding positioners, fabrication fixtures, production tooling, and assembly equipment.
  • Material handling and production support equipment, including overhead cranes, hoists, conveyors, transfer systems, welding positioners, fabrication fixtures, assembly equipment, and custom production tooling.
  • Facility mechanical infrastructure, including dust collection systems, ventilation equipment, cooling systems, industrial piping, lubrication systems, and other production support equipment.
  • Mechanical power transmission systems, including bearings, gearboxes, shafts, couplings, chains, belts, sprockets, pulleys, rollers, reducers, and drive assemblies.
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including power units, pumps, cylinders, motors, valves, manifolds, air compressors, regulators, filters, actuators, and compressed air distribution systems.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic circuits using technical drawings, schematics, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on mechanical systems supporting structural steel fabrication and component manufacturing.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimize production interruptions and restore operations.
  • Fabricate or modify brackets, guards, machine supports, and replacement components as needed.
  • Perform mechanical disassembly, inspection, repair, and reassembly of production equipment.
  • Assist with installation, relocation, commissioning, and startup of new production equipment.
  • Communicate equipment status, repair progress, and operational concerns to Production and Maintenance leadership.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Proficiency in the use of hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, meters, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Must be able to read mechanical drawings, hydraulic diagrams, pneumatic diagrams, and equipment manuals.
  • Ability to safely operate maintenance tools, lifting equipment, and mobile equipment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to operators, supervisors, engineers, and vendors.
  • Ability to adapt to changing schedules and production priorities.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
Physical Requirements:
  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb ladders, and work from elevated platforms.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and heavier loads with mechanical lifting equipment.
  • Work in confined spaces and around moving equipment while following established safety procedures.
  • Manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination for operating equipment and handling supplies.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, steel‑toe footwear, fall protection, and respiratory protection when required.
Work Schedule:
  • Monday‑Friday,
  • 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM, extended hours may be required based on workload and project deadlines.
  • 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM, extended hours may be required based on workload and project deadlines.
  • Depending on production needs, some weekend work may be required.
Benefits:
