Job description

Position Summary

The Lead Facilities Technician utilizes knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic equipment to train and lead a group of technicians. They ensure daily operations are conducted safely and efficiently, install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair machinery or equipment, diagnose issues with machinery components, and determine when adjustments or repairs are needed.

Hours: 12pm - 10pm

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direction and technical leadership to other technicians to complete projects, demonstrating personal conduct and ethics.
  • Offer technical expertise on MRF equipment and other technologies, including operational and performance assessments.
  • Train, mentor, and assist in developing effective maintenance techniques.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals to perform maintenance and service.
  • Prevent plant breakdowns by performing planned and preventive maintenance on conveying systems, power transmissions, and other power-driven rotating equipment, adhering to company, manufacturer, and federal standards.
  • Repair or coordinate repair of defective machinery or equipment, test machines through trial runs, and communicate equipment issues and resolutions to operators.
  • Work in harsh and extreme environments, perform extensive housekeeping duties, and use various small tools while complying with safety regulations.
  • Complete daily equipment inspections to minimize downtime and recommend measures to improve production, equipment performance, and product quality.
  • Perform service calls for emergency breakdowns, complete required training, and establish work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Clean, inspect, and perform routine maintenance or minor repairs on recycling equipment.
  • Participate in training and other learning opportunities to expand knowledge and perform duties aligned with company values.
Career Path Definitions & Distinctions

B Technician: Demonstrates understanding of Level C skills and equipment, with increasing knowledge of Level B skills. Mechanical skills include greasing bearings, understanding belts, lubrication, and using lifts. Electrical skills include wiring, voltage understanding, and troubleshooting.

A Technician: Demonstrates understanding of Level B skills, beginning to acquire Level A skills. Mechanical skills include using calipers, changing bearings, gearboxes, shafts, pulleys, welding, and troubleshooting motors. Electrical skills include wiring, testing, and troubleshooting.

Master Technician: Demonstrates proficiency in all Level C, B, and A skills, including advanced mechanical and electrical skills, and the ability to lead and train a team.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

The candidate should have a high school diploma or GED, progressive technician training, 5-7 years of experience diagnosing and repairing equipment, and be able to work as part of a team. Must be at least 18 years old, able to work overtime, and lift 50 pounds regularly. Excellent listening, problem-solving, multitasking, communication, and training skills are required.
