Job Description
Position Purpose: Perform advanced operations and maintenance activities at water and wastewater treatment facilities. Perform maintenance on water distribution and wastewater collection systems. Work conditions include noise, fumes, hazardous materials, and weather.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Preventative maintenance of all water and wastewater machinery and equipment.
  • Operate manual labor and equipment such as trucks, sewer cleaning machines, and water line tapping tools.
  • Repair and replace machinery and perform building and grounds maintenance.
  • Operate backhoe/front-end loader for maintenance tasks.
  • Manage materials, tools, and equipment; maintain records and procure supplies as needed.
  • Implement standard maintenance procedures and maintain records.
  • Attend at least 16 hours of continuing education annually.
  • Respond to emergency call-outs after hours.
  • Coordinate with system personnel, contractors, and the public regarding maintenance issues.
  • Operate borough vehicles and perform related activities.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • At least 3 years’ experience as a Maintenance Technician or 10+ years in water/wastewater maintenance and operation.
  • Experience with distribution system operations, leak detection, meter operations, and maintenance.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Skills in repairing pumps, motors, gear drives, and operating heavy equipment.
  • Manual labor ability; use of power tools, welding, and maintenance equipment.
  • Effective communication and ability to read blueprints, manuals, and reports.

Certifications/Licenses/Training:

  • Valid PA Class B Endorsement N (tank) with no air brake restriction CDL.
  • Valid PA-DEP Class E water and wastewater operator licenses.
  • Completion of 90 hours PA DEP-approved water/wastewater training.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work on high structures, operate heavy machinery, lift objects up to 100 lbs.
  • Work in confined spaces, on ladders, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
