The Maintenance Technician II supports FedEx Industrial Maintenance for material handling by performing preventative and predictive maintenance and repairs on material handling systems. The technician utilizes prescribed processes related to mechanical power transmission, electrical, PLC/controls, welding/fabrication, and other industrial maintenance systems. Troubleshooting component and system issues may be required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides preventative and predictive maintenance and repairs of material handling systems, demonstrating competency in two or more specialty skills such as mechanical power transmission, electrical, or PLC/controls, with basic welding/fabrication skills.
- Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs mechanical and electrical problems, relying on higher-level technicians or management for complex issues.
- Adheres to safety standards, attends safety meetings and trainings, and addresses safety concerns to promote a safe work environment.
- Responds to calls to diagnose problems and perform repairs.
- May troubleshoot multiple component issues.
- Utilizes Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software to enter and retrieve data.
- Requires somewhat complex skills in diagnosing mechanical failures.
- May rely on higher-level technicians for complex troubleshooting.
- Participates in smaller scope projects.
- May work flexible schedules, including all days and shifts as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
Mechanical
- Identify and repair components causing conveyor mis-tracking.
- Diagnose power transmission failures such as motor, gearbox, pulley, or roller failures.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings and manuals.
Electrical
- Use digital multimeters to test AC/DC voltage, continuity, and resistance.
- Test relays or contactors to identify faulty contacts.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics and manuals.
PLC/Controls
- Open PLC programs offline.
- Troubleshoot electrical control issues using I/O lights.
Welding or Fabrication
- Perform MIG and stick welding in multiple positions.
- Weld parts using appropriate materials.
- Fabricate basic parts like guards or brackets.
- Use oxygen/acetylene torches.
MINIMUM EDUCATION
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Certificates in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, electrical, or mechanical trades, or an associate degree preferred.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
- Two years in industrial maintenance/mechatronics with competency in at least two skills.
- Military experience considered.
- Equivalent qualifications may include an associate degree or relevant certificates.

- Follow procedures from work orders or senior technicians.
- Use EAM software effectively.
- Solve basic mechanical or electrical problems, understanding engineering principles.
- Diagnose issues in mechanical power transmission and electrical systems.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office and web applications.
