Job summary

Avery Dennison Mt Prospect facility is seeking an experienced Industrial Maintenance Technician to diagnose and repair complex machinery, including PLC systems and electrical controls. You will be responsible for preventive maintenance, equipment calibration, and safety compliance, working with engineers and production teams to minimize downtime.

The role requires 3+ years in industrial maintenance, a trade school certificate or associate degree, and strong diagnostic skills.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of multi-craft (electrical & mechanical) industrial maintenance experience.
• Trade School Certification or Associate's Degree in Industrial Maintenance.
• Hands-on experience with 3-phase power, PLC systems, relay logic, motor controls, electrical conduit installation, and testing devices.
• Proficient in mechanical tool repair, pneumatics, basic plumbing, HVAC, masonry, and general facility maintenance.
• Strong diagnostic agility, mechanical aptitude, schematic reading, computer literacy, effective communication, and willingness to cross-train.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot & Repair: Diagnose failures and repair industrial machinery, including 3-phase electrical controls, PLC systems, DC drives, motors, pneumatic tools, and conveyors.
• Predictive & Preventative Maintenance: Execute strict PM schedules, perform equipment calibrations, and inspect circuits and wiring for safety and efficiency.
• Continuous Improvement: Partner with engineers and production teams to optimize machinery, reduce downtime, and eliminate safety risks.
• Documentation & Safety: Order replacement parts, maintain repair logs, adhere to OSHA standards, and foster a clean, safe shop environment.

Key Responsibilities

Minimum Education Required

High School/GED

Additional Qualifications / Responsibilities

• Experience & Education: 3+ years of multi-craft (electrical & mechanical) industrial maintenance experience, OR a Trade School Certification / Associate's Degree in Industrial Maintenance
• Technical & Electrical Mastery: Hands-on experience with 3-phase power, PLC systems, relay logic, motor controls, electrical conduit installation, and testing devices (ammeters, meggers, gauges)
• Mechanical & Facility Skills: Proficient in mechanical tool repair, pneumatics, basic plumbing, HVAC, masonry, and general facility maintenance
• Core Competencies: Exceptional diagnostic agility, mechanical aptitude, schematic reading, computer literacy, effective communication, and willingness to cross-train
• Physical & Availability: Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs, with flexibility to work short-notice overtime as production requires

Knowledge, Understanding, & Formal Training In:

• Plant utility systems maintenance & operations
• Industrial machine repair/reliability techniques

Skills Required For Machine Tool Functions

• Ability to work from prints/technical drawing
• 3-phase & control power & basic input & output electrical devices.
• (Electrical) Knowledge of relay logic, DC drives and PLC systems.
• (Electrical) Working knowledge of methods and procedures used in performing evaluations on all electrical apparatus using ammeters, meggers (high voltage resistance test device), temperature gauges etc.
• Understanding of technical & non-technical documents related to design & operational characteristics of machine mechanical and electrical systems.
