GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of preventative maintenance and repair tasks at the Oconee County Detention Center, The Law Enforcement Center and all substations, to include the communication towers, and equipment. This position performs preventative maintenance and makes repairs to electrical, plumbing systems, HVAC, and other mechanical systems. Provides assistance with minor building construction, general grounds keeping, renovation, and general carpentry work. This position serves as a liaison between contractors to obtain quotes and escorts civilians needing access to certain areas as they perform work.

  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses system problems.
  • Repairs and installs electrical equipment.
  • Paints buildings and structures as required.
  • Installs sheetrock in various facilities.
  • Constructs walls and performs other carpentry duties.
  • Installs carpet, tile, and other types of flooring.
  • Provides maintenance on mechanical locking systems, including jail cameras and security systems.
  • Installs and repairs plumbing systems.
  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses, installs, and repairs HVAC units.
  • Performs minor renovations.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on buildings.
  • Constructs and forms concrete.
  • Lays construction blocks.
  • Performs routine maintenance on various equipment.
  • Maintains inventory of vehicle maintenance.
  • Performs grounds keeping at the substation, communications towers, and the law enforcement center.
  • Installs and repairs equipment for the inmate phone and tablet systems.
  • Serves as a liaison between contractors to obtain quotes and escort them into secure locations.
  • Serves as the Fire Safety Coordinator for the law enforcement and detention centers, including maintaining fire suppression equipment, hood vent cleaning, and conducting required fire marshal inspections.
  • Sprays for insects and ensures the area is rodent‑free.
  • Runs data cable to various systems throughout the detention center.
  • Maintains correct temperatures throughout the law enforcement and detention centers using HVAC software.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or equivalent, and four (4) years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS

Required: Valid driver's license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

This position has the following special vision requirements: close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down and to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point); depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).
