The Maintenance Technician II supports FedEx Industrial Maintenance for material handling by performing preventative and predictive maintenance, as well as repairs on material handling systems. The role involves following prescribed processes related to mechanical power transmission, electrical systems, PLC/controls, welding/fabrication, and other industrial maintenance tasks. Troubleshooting component and system issues may also be required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides preventative and predictive maintenance and repair of material handling systems, demonstrating competency in two or more specialty skills such as mechanical power transmission, electrical, or PLC/controls, with basic welding/fabrication skills.
- Diagnoses and repairs mechanical and electrical problems within the system, escalating more complex issues to higher-level technicians or management.
- Follows safety standards, attends safety meetings, and addresses safety concerns to promote a safe work environment.
- Responds promptly to calls to diagnose problems and perform repairs.
- May troubleshoot multiple component issues.
- Utilizes Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software to document and retrieve data.
- Performs complex diagnosis and troubleshooting of mechanical failures.
- Assists in smaller scope projects as needed.
- May work flexible schedules, including all days and shifts based on business needs.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AT TECH II LEVEL
Mechanical
- Identify causes of conveyor mis-tracking and perform repairs or replacements.
- Diagnose power transmission failures, such as motor or gearbox failures.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings and manuals.
Electrical
- Use a digital multimeter to test AC/DC voltage, continuity, and resistance.
- Test relays and contactors to identify bad contacts.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics and manuals.
PLC/Controls
- Open PLC programs offline.
- Troubleshoot electrical control issues using I/O indicators on PLCs.
Welding or Fabrication
- Perform MIG and stick welding in various positions.
- Weld and fabricate basic parts like guards or brackets.
- Use oxygen/acetylene torches.
MINIMUM EDUCATION
- High School Diploma or GED required; certifications in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, electrical, or mechanical trades, or an associate degree preferred.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
- At least 2 years of experience in industrial maintenance or related fields, with competency in at least two specialty skills, or equivalent military experience. An associate degree or certifications may substitute for experience.

- Ability to follow procedures and work orders.

- Basic mechanical and electrical problem-solving skills, including understanding engineering formulas.
