Job summary

University of Central Florida seeks a Maintenance Tech II to support high-performance facilities operations across campus. You will perform PM/PMR, basic repairs, and housekeeping tasks to maintain a safe, functional learning environment.

The role requires an apprenticeship or a high school diploma with experience, plus a valid driver’s license. You’ll use IWMS and mobile devices to document work orders and coordinate with campus partners.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship in multiple trades and 3 years of relevant experience.
  • OR a high school diploma with 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Equivalent education/experience per Fla. Stat. 112.219.
  • Valid Class E driver’s license may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled PM and corrective repairs (PMR) based on identified issues or user reports.
  • Execute basic repairs in plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry.
  • Replace and maintain light bulbs, HVAC filters, ceiling tiles, and plumbing fixtures.
  • Assist custodial tasks including vacuuming, window cleaning, and trash removal.
  • Create and update work orders with labor hours, action codes, shop stock, and trade notes.
  • Report conditions requiring further attention and update work order status.
  • Work with central shops, contractors, and other zones or events.

Opportunity

Maintenance Tech II – High Performance Work Team. This role supports the operational maintenance and sanitation of campus buildings, ensuring a safe, functional, and attractive learning environment. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, responding to user requests, and performing basic maintenance and housekeeping tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective repairs (PMR) based on identified issues or user reports.
  • Execute basic repairs in plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry.
  • Replace and maintain items such as light bulbs, HVAC filters, ceiling tiles, and plumbing fixtures.
  • Assist with custodial tasks including vacuuming, window cleaning, and trash removal.
  • Support work performed by central shops, contractors, other zones, departments, or campus events.
  • Restore equipment or spaces to proper working conditions through corrective work.
  • Complete work orders on time, documenting labor hours, action codes, shop stock, and trade notes.
  • Report conditions requiring further attention and update work order status.
  • Create work orders for unassigned repairs identified during the shift.
Minimum Qualifications

Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for multiple trades and 3 years of relevant experience; OR a high school diploma and 3 years of relevant experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience performing general building maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of custodial cleaning techniques and chemicals.
  • Experience in campus, institutional, medical, hospitality, or similar environments.
  • Experience with inventory management, tracking materials and tools.
  • Ability to operate and maintain maintenance tools and equipment safely.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and independent troubleshooting.
  • Effective communication with customers and team members; use of electronic equipment such as iPads and telecommunication devices.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and adherence to safety standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple tasks with organization.
  • Familiarity with building automation systems and Integrated Work Management Systems (IWMS).
Health Assessment Required

UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

Special Instructions to Applicants

New hires will receive the base salary for the role, determined in alignment with UCF’s pay structure and internal equity considerations.

Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license and may involve driving across campus for University business.

Applicants may be required to participate in respiratory and medical examinations and training for respirator use.

All applicants must be authorized to work for a U.S. employer. Visa sponsorship is not available. The university cannot accommodate H1B transfers or employment‑based visa processing for individuals currently sponsored by another employer.

Work Schedules
  • Monday – Friday, 4:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
  • Monday – Friday, 1:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
  • Monday – Friday, 3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. (eligible for 5% shift differential pay)
