Job summary

Astec is seeking a Maintenance Technician to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment at our Blair, NE site. You will support safety, predictive maintenance, and productive operations to help meet our site goals.

Responsibilities include emergency repairs, preventive maintenance, plumbing, HVAC and machine servicing, plus reading manuals and work orders. Strong problem-solving and collaboration are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with apprenticeship or equivalent maintenance experience.
  • At least 2 years manufacturing experience with hydraulic/electrical/pneumatic/mechanical skills and PLC experience.
  • HVAC knowledge and strong problem-solving skills are desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and with others to achieve goals.

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain production machines and facility equipment.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production.
  • Conduct scheduled maintenance on production equipment during service.
  • Perform a variety of plumbing, maintenance and carpentry tasks as needed.
  • Utilize mechanical skills including electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic troubleshooting and repair.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders for maintenance tasks.
  • Diagnose problems, replace/repair parts, test and adjust.
  • Operate a range of hand and power tools and meters safely.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and keep work areas clean.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems, and processes to support the achievement of the site’s business goals and objectives.


Key Deliverables


  • Respond quickly in the event of an emergency repair.

  • Fix potential safety hazards to avoid injuries.

  • Repair broken or leaking plumbing.

  • Maintain the building HVAC equipment in order to keep climate control in the facility functioning properly.

  • Perform maintenance of electrical systems.


Key Activities & Responsibilities


  • Install and maintain production machines and the plant/facility’s equipment

  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production

  • Conduct scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service

  • Perform simple machinist duties and responsibilities

  • Utilize mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines

  • Execute regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment, and plant facilities

  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to complete required maintenance and service

  • Diagnose problems, replace, or repair parts, test and adjust

  • Perform a variety of plumbing, maintenance, and carpentry functions

  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties

  • Detect faulty operations, defective material, and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision

  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas

  • Achieve quality results as it relates to the Company’s vision and mission

  • Promote and educate others on Astec’s core values

  • Follow company policies, procedures, and safety rules at all times


To be successful in this role, you r experience and competencies are:


  • High school diploma/GED and completion of a craft apprenticeship, or an equivalent number of years of education and production maintenance experience

  • 2+ years of manufacturing experience; strong hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and industrial skills with some PLC experience and HVAC

  • Ethical conduct is essential.

  • Demonstrated ability and initiative to achieve results is required.

  • Must work well independently and with others for the purpose of achieving mutual goals.

  • Technical capability and problem-solving skills are critical.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively across departments to meet the needs of internal customers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Manufacturing Environment


Shop manufacturing environment exposures include exposure to moving mechanical parts, machinery, tools and equipment, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, motorized vehicles, welding and machining operations, outside weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electric shock. The employee may occasionally be exposed to varying levels of dirt, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, very warm and/or very chilly temperatures. The noise level in the shop can be very loud at times consistent with an industrial assembly facility and may require hearing protection.
