The role requires strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and HVAC skills, with PLC exposure and the ability to work independently as well as with cross-functional teams in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with craft apprenticeship or equivalent maintenance experience.
  • 2+ years manufacturing maintenance experience with hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, mechanical skills and some PLC exposure.
  • HVAC familiarity and ability to work across departments to meet maintenance needs.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, safety consciousness, and independent work capability.

Responsibilities

  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production machines and facility equipment.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance to minimize downtime.
  • Read and interpret manuals and work orders; diagnose and repair faults.
  • Utilize mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic skills to service equipment.
  • Complete preventive maintenance and assist with HVAC-related tasks.
  • Operate hand and power tools, meters, and material handling equipment safely.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive, and productive maintenance systems, and processes to support the achievement of the site’s business goals and objectives.

Key Deliverables
  • Respond quickly in the event of an emergency repair.
  • Fix potential safety hazards to avoid injuries.
  • Maintain the building HVAC equipment to keep climate control in the facility functioning properly.
  • Complete digital work orders and invoices cleanly using mobile technology.
  • Proficient in servicing, maintaining, and repairing systems in line with HVAC protocols.
Key Activities & Responsibilities
  • Install and maintain production machines and the plant/facility’s equipment
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production
  • Conduct scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service
  • Perform simple machinist duties and responsibilities
  • Utilize mechanical skills, including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting, and repair of production machines
  • Execute regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment, and plant facilities
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to complete required maintenance and service
  • Diagnose problems, replace, or repair parts, test, and adjust
  • Ability to solder and perform necessary electrical work associated with the HVAC project
  • Perform a variety of plumbing, maintenance, and carpentry functions
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties
  • Detect faulty operations, defective material, and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas
  • Achieve quality results as it relates to the Company’s vision and mission
  • Promote and educate others on Astec’s core values
  • Follow company policies, procedures, and safety rules at all times
To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:
  • High school diploma/GED and completion of a craft apprenticeship, or an equivalent number of years of education and production maintenance experience
  • 2+ years of manufacturing experience; strong hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and industrial skills with some PLC experience and HVAC
  • Ethical conduct is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability and initiative to achieve results is required.
  • Must work well independently and with others for the purpose of achieving mutual goals.
  • Technical capability and problem-solving skills are critical.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively across departments to meet the needs of internal customers.

Manufacturing Environment

Shop manufacturing environment exposures include exposure to moving mechanical parts, machinery, tools and equipment, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, motorized vehicles, welding and machining operations, outside weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electric shock.The employee may occasionally be exposed to varying levels of dirt, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, very warm and/or very chilly temperatures.The noise level in the shop can be very loud at times consistent with an industrial assembly facility and may require hearing protection.
