Job summary

Gibraltar Industries in San Antonio, TX is seeking a Maintenance Technician II to responsibly maintain production equipment, troubleshoot PLC systems, and lead junior technicians. Qualifications

• HS Diploma or Technical School preferred.
• Major: Basic Mechanics.
• 3+ years of equipment maintenance experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance of equipment and refine lubrication/PM schedules.
• Replace components and parts as needed.
• Troubleshoot PLC systems and complex switching/controls.
• Conduct machine changeovers and tooling adjustments.
• Run equipment for testing and setup.
• Operate maintenance machinery (mills, lathes, drill presses).
• Document work orders and verify parts used; review orders for accuracy.
• Lead and mentor Level 1/2 Technicians and participate in special projects.

Job description

Primary Accountabilities (Essential Duties): Maintenance Technician II

• Perform normal and routine maintenance of equipment. Help refine lubrication and preventive maintenance schedules to ensure reliability of machinery. Troubleshoot components and parts for replacement and system improvement.
• Replace identified components and parts that require replacement.
• Troubleshoot PLC systems and identify failed components. Troubleshoot complex switching systems and controls.
• Perform machine changeovers and adjust roll tooling, change shear inserts, and grind tooling as needed.
• Run equipment for testing and setup purposes.
• Operation of maintenance machinery, mills, lathes, drill presses etc.
• Document work performed as defined by the company, such as completing work orders and listing all parts replaced. Review all work order submitted by Level 1 and Level 2 Maintenance Technicians for accuracy.
• Other duties and tasks as requested by the Maintenance Supervisor.

Secondary Accountabilities:

• Lead special projects such as but not limited to machine relocation and machine guarding projects.
• Lead person, train, direct and mentor Level 1 and Level 2 Maintenance Technicians

Education / Experience: (an equivalent combination of education and experience required to successfully complete the primary accountabilities is indicated below)

Degree: HS Diploma / Technical School preferred Major: Basic Mechanics

Technical Skills: Use of hand tools, Troubleshooting on mechanical equipment, knowledge of hydraulic systems, working knowledge of PLC, AC and DC inverters as well as programmable controllers. Able to read of schematics and blueprints. Strong knowledge of electrical distribution and control systems. Electrical wiring to include motor wiring, motor control wiring, 120, 220, 480 service connects, system electrical connections and controls. Must be able to run conduit and wiring, air lines, hydraulic lines, align level and anchor machinery.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving forklifts and pallets. The employee is occasionally exposed to hot or cold conditions. The noise level in the work environment is high and requires the use of hearing protections. We also require steel toed shoes and protective eyewear at all times in the plant.
