Job summary

Associated Materials Innovations is seeking a Maintenance Technician to troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and recondition machinery and facility equipment. You'll rely on diagrams, manuals, and specs to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, and to ensure safe, efficient operation of plant systems.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Able to read blueprints.
  • Able to use measuring instruments.
  • Understand electronic components to troubleshoot and repair.
  • Able to use hand and power tools.
  • Strong problem solving and math skills.
  • 5 years industrial electrician/maintenance or extrusion environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform self-directed reactive and planned maintenance across the facility to locate root causes, dismantle devices, and repair/replace faulty parts.
  • Dismantle, adjust, and test devices and control instruments; maintain electrical panels and machinery to NFPA/NEC standards.
  • Set up and operate machining tools such as lathe, drill, grinder for parts repair.
  • Troubleshoot machine failures and analyze 480V components; knowledge of PLC software is a plus.
  • Maintain grounds and building exterior; support safety, quality, and reliability initiatives.

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and reconditioning machinery and facility equipment. This role works from diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer specifications to diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues.

Responsibilities include performing advanced maintenance and repairs across the facility, including building systems, grounds, lighting, plumbing, HVAC, and production equipment. The technician independently identifies issues, implements solutions, and ensures equipment and facility systems operate safely and efficiently.

This position requires the ability to work with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and reliability.

What To Expect
  • Performs self-directed reactive and planned maintenance which includes but is not limited to: observing devices in operation to locate the root cause of the problem; dismantling devices to gain access to and remove defective parts; examining parts to detect imperfections; adjustment of functional parts of devices and control instruments; repair and/or replacement of defective parts; testing of the device to observe performance; and tests for electrical circuitry and mechanical systems; reconditions and repairs machine tools.
  • Performs simple welding tasks and orders supplies and repair items, as necessary.
  • Analyzes and troubleshoot machine failures. Acts as a proactive project champion and works closely with planner/scheduler. Lays out, wire, builds, and troubleshoots electrical panels and/or other machinery to NFPA/NEC standards.
  • Maintains the grounds and building exterior, by performing any one or up to two of the following technical disciplines; routine electrical, mechanical, carpentry, and HVAC repairs.
  • Provides assistance to lower-level technicians and leadership to small teams. Performs more advanced functions as a part of training and development.
  • May be required to set up and operate multiple machining operations including but not limited to a lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
  • Troubleshooting 480 components including drives and PLC software. BMC and Allen Bradley's Knowledge is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Omron, Barber Colemen controllers. ABB, Reliance, and Yaskawa drices.
  • A/C and D/C drive repairs and installation is required. (Conversions)
What We're Looking For
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to read blueprints
  • Must be able to use measuring instruments and perform basic failure analysis
  • Possess an understanding of electronic components to troubleshoot and repair
  • Must be able to use hand and power tools
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs; solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • 5 years working as an industrial electrician/maintenance or working in an extrusion manufacturing environment preferred.

The atmosphere is that of a manufacturing plant. The position will primarily work where moving machinery produces noise. Employees must wear Personal Protective Equipment that is issued for that location. Temperature can range from extreme cold to extreme heat. Physical demands may include standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, climbing, pushing/pulling, forward bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, squatting, crawling, postural balancing, manipulating, trunk rotation, handling, gripping, and talking (hearing).
