Job summary

Diocesan Housing Service Corporation of the Diocese of Camden seeks a skilled Maintenance Technician II. The role involves maintaining rental units across New Jersey, with assignments at Haven House and Village of St. Peters, Lower Township & Pleasantville. Flexibility for after-hours calls is required.

You will work with a maintenance team, perform carpentry, plumbing, electrical tasks, and document work using OneSite. Travel between properties is expected.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain rental units and facilities as part of the maintenance team.
  • Respond to training and cross-training per supervisor and DHSC requirements.
  • Manage assignments via OneSite and document task completion.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and weekend emergency coverage.
  • Collaborate with property managers and contractors to ensure safe, clean properties.

Description
Maintenance Technician II
SUMMARY

The Diocesan Housing Service Corporation of the Diocese of Camden (DHSC) seeks skilled Maintenance Technician. Successful candidate will be assigned to one or two specific multifamily housing sites and available for other sites on an as needed basis as determined by the Maintenance Director. Positions available:

  • - Haven House, Cape May (1 position);
  • - Village of St. Peters , Lower Township & Pleasantville (1 position covering 2 locations).

Must have flexibility of schedule to allow for periodic after hour and weekend emergency calls (rotating call schedule). Must possess required skills as outlined below.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work with members of the maintenance team to repair and maintain rental units and facilities.
  • Accept directions and respond positively to training as relates to custodial work, plumbing, carpentry, electrical and/or other trades related activities.
  • Clean and maintain all common areas and office space
  • Utilize web-based property management software, OneSite, to retrieve assignments and document their completion.
  • Work Outdoors during inclement weather – shovel snow, ice, etc.
  • Participate in the rotation of On-Call assignments requiring the necessity to respond to emergency calls 24 hrs/day, 7 days/wk.
  • Attend all training as required by DHSC and participate in cross training of jobs as required by supervisor and/or management.
  • Maintain a standard of behavior and attitude consistent with membership in a faith-based organization.
  • Maintain a positive work environment by acting and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with customers, clients, co-workers, external colleagues and management.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Ability to operate all necessary hand tools to make repairs
  • Ability to kneel, crouch, climb, crawl, etc. to reach items for repairs
  • Ability to utilize web-based maintenance management mobile device
  • Knowledge of basic maintenance skills in carpentry, plumbing and electrical.
  • Must be willing to work outdoors during inclement weather
  • Ability to lift and move 50 lbs and move up to 100 lbs
  • Must participate in on call rotation and work overtime as required
  • Must assimilate as part of maintenance team to complete tasks
  • Must have drivers license in good standing, valid insurance and dependable personal vehicle.
  • Must have the ability to work with low-income senior citizens, families, and disabled population.
  • Must be willing to travel between DHSC properties located in the lower six counties in the State of New Jersey.
  • Must be willing to accept training related to maintenance operations, Fair Housing Laws, REAC Inspections, Asbestos and other as required.
Education/Training/Experience
  • High School Education or Trade School – must be literate
  • Training and/or Experience in the basics of property maintenance including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, HVAC, etc.
  • OSHA Safety Training
  • Must keep any licenses current and skills refined.
Organizational Relationships

Reports to the Maintenance Supervisor under direction of the Maintenance Director, who has primary authority to determine exact “day to day” duties of the technician. This determination will take into consideration the technician’s skills, experience, and career goals, and how they best fit into the operational needs of the property. Rotation between properties and regions may be required. Works with leasing personnel, other maintenance staff, property managers, and contractors as required.

Skills Requirement

Must have extensive experience and demonstrable skills relating to construction trades. Current or previous contractor licensing preferred. Must be able to demonstrate, utilizing standard safety procedures, the ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical problems, troubleshoot and repair plumbing problems (solder, compression, etc.), show ability repairing drywall and painting, and have ability to make masonry repairs.

Compensation

Compensation is $19 to $23 per hour commensurate with experience
