Overall Purpose: Why the Job Exists & What You Will Do
As a Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of machinery and mechanical equipment in the Des Moines facility. This includes performing preventive maintenance and learning to troubleshoot equipment breakdowns.
Essential Job Functions & Expected Outcomes: Your Accountabilities in the Role
- Maintenance
- Work overtime hours as needed on breakdowns and project work. Unscheduled and unconventional hours may be required.
- Monitor and maintain area 5S safety requirements.
- Complete basic preventive maintenance such as greasing bearings, replacing saw blades, maintaining oil levels, etc.
- Address electrical or mechanical issues as they arise, with a willingness to learn both areas.
- Work autonomously on projects related to building and grounds maintenance, including snow removal, trimming trees/shrubs, hanging/installing office equipment.
- Prioritize work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Assist in disassembling and reassembling machinery and equipment.
- Complete all physical requirements of the job.
- Safety
- Maintain high safety standards throughout the plant, including preventive and predictive maintenance, repairs, and improvements.
- Follow and execute plant safety programs (lockout/tagout, etc.).
- Adhere to all safety protocols related to daily maintenance duties, including laser safety, Arc Flash safety, etc.

Position Requirements
- Education: None required; 2-year technical degree preferred.
- Experience: None required; 1-2 years preferred. Must have electrical or mechanical background and demonstrate working knowledge of the field.
- Certifications: Ability to obtain and maintain forklift, overhead crane, and additional licenses as required.
- Functional Skills: Ability to read blueprints, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic schematics, operate overhead crane and forklift, and knowledge of safe rigging principles.
- Technology Skills: Basic math, safety regulations, electrical or mechanical aptitude, proficiency with Microsoft Office and maintenance software.
- Language Skills: Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.

Physical Requirements
- Lift and carry 30-50 lbs occasionally
- Work up to 12-hour shifts
- Operate hand and power tools
- Remain calm and act responsibly during emergencies
- Lift and manipulate heavy equipment
- Work around grease, oil, dirt, fumes in hot/cold environments
- Work in awkward positions such as bending, twisting, kneeling
- Walk or stand up to 75% of the workday
- Climb ladders and work at heights
- Perform frequent bending, twisting, squatting, reaching, walking, standing
Environmental Conditions & Travel
- Primarily exposed to manufacturing environment requiring PPE (long pants, shirts, steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, hardhat, harness, hearing protection, gloves, welding PPE, arc flash PPE, air respirator)
- Work in hot, noisy, oily/greasy, dusty environments
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Work at heights with fall protection, in tight spaces as needed
