Job summary

Perdue Foods is seeking a Maintenance Technician I to support machinery performance and reliability on a 3rd shift (6:00pm–6:00am). The role emphasizes on-the-job learning, safety, and progression in a plant environment.

You will assist with equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and setup, with opportunities to expand technical skills and certifications as you grow with the team.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 0 - 3 years experience in industrial maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on mechanical/electrical equipment.
  • Beginner proficiency in hydraulics, mechanics, electrical, welding and rigging.
  • Commitment to continuous learning to gain expertise.
  • Effective written and oral communication.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain equipment and troubleshoot issues.
  • Perform routine inspections and basic repairs on mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Assist in setting up machines and production changeovers.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and document reports.
  • Follow safety standards and quality protocols to meet production goals.
  • Collaborate with production staff to solve reliability issues with urgency.
  • Identify unusual or dangerous mechanical/electrical situations and report.
  • Observe safety precautions to minimize chemical, dust, and hazard exposure.
  • Work required shifts; some day travel to nearby locations.

Schedule

3rd shift, 2-2-3 schedule 6:00pm-6:00am

Principal Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Must be able to demonstrate/achieve and maintain Maintenance Tech I proficiency within 10 months of hire.
  • Assist with maintaining equipment, troubleshooting issues, and performing routine inspections.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • May assist in managing the machines’ performance by doing equipment set up and production changeovers.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns in a timely manner. Maintain work records and prepare clear and concise oral and written reports.
  • Understand and follow all safety standards and quality protocols to ensure production exceeds the standards.
  • Collaborate well with production associates to solve problems with reliability and urgency.
  • Recognize and report unusual, inefficient, or dangerous mechanical and electrical situations.
  • Utilize appropriate safety precautions, methods, and apparatus to minimize and withstand exposure to chemicals, dust, and mechanical and electrical hazards. Learn and observe all safety precautions as required by Perdue.
  • Work all required work schedules. Day travel to nearby locations is sometimes required.
Minimum Education And Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and equivalent experience.
  • 0 - 3 Years experience in Industrial maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs on Mechanical and Electrical Equipment, and/or Equivalent Military Experience.
  • Beginner proficiency in Hydraulics, Mechanics, Electrical, Welding and Rigging.
  • Commitment to Continuous Learning to achieve increasing levels of expertise.
  • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing.
Preferred Education And Experience
  • 2-year Technical Degree in Engineering or Industrial Maintenance.
Physical Requirements And Environmental Factors
  • Sitting, standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, reaching overhead and/or at shoulder level, lifting (50 lbs.) and/or repetitive tasks throughout the day.
  • Position requires occasional moving to other offices or buildings.
When In a Plant Environment
  • Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces.
  • May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity.
  • May handle products from 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db.
  • May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, food, processing plant.
  • May need to access files, supplies, and equipment.
  • Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company.
