Job summary

A local government entity in University Park, Texas, seeks a dedicated individual for street and sewer maintenance. Qualifications

  • 6 months of experience in installation and repair of water/sewer mains and streets preferred.
  • Ability to sit, stand, drive, bend, lift, stoop, and work in confined spaces.
  • Capable of lifting up to approximately 100 pounds regularly.
  • Valid Texas Class C driver’s license required.
  • Ability to sit, stand, drive, and lift up to 100 pounds; work in extreme temperatures and around hazards.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair streets, alleys, and storm sewer lines.
  • Install and maintain the city's water distribution and wastewater collection system.
  • Prepare work sites and clean equipment and job sites after assignments.
  • Respond to citizen complaints and supervisor work requests.
  • Prepare and clean up work sites and jobs.
  • Ensure trucks/equipment have supplies for next job.
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies.
  • Install and maintain sewer and water mains and appurtenances.
  • Maintain storm sewer inlet boxes.
  • Keep records of work performed.
  • Fill daily forms for supervisor updates.

Job description

Maintains and repairs streets, alleys, and storm sewer lines. Installs and maintains the City’s water distribution and wastewater collection system. Prepares work sites and cleans equipment, job sites and shop after completing assignments. Breaks out concrete for job preparation. Pours and finishes concrete. Maintains storm sewer inlet boxes. Flushes sewers to prevent stoppage. Responds to after‑hour emergencies.

Responsibilities
  • Work associated with the maintenance of streets, curbs, alleys and utility cuts.
  • Breaks out concrete for job preparation.
  • Operates and performs preventive maintenance of heavy equipment and vehicles.
  • Responds to citizen complaints and work requests from supervisor.
  • Prepares work sites and cleans up sites when jobs are complete.
  • Ensures that the truck and equipment have supplies for the next employee or job.
  • Responds to after‑hours emergencies.
  • Installs and maintains the city’s sewer and water mains and appurtenances.
  • Maintains storm sewer inlet boxes.
  • Maintains records of work performed.
  • Fills out daily forms to provide supervisor with information on current projects.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Requires 6 months of experience performing manual labor work primarily outdoors required. 6 months of experience in the installation and repair of water/sewer mains and streets and alleys preferred.
  • Must have a good driving record and ability to obtain Texas Class B‑CDL within 6 months of hire date
  • Valid Texas Class C driver’s license required

Ability to sit, stand and drive a vehicle to and from various work sites. Ability to bend, lift, stoop and be in confined space areas. Employee will work in extreme temperatures installing, repairing and testing systems and equipment. Ability to work with mechanical, chemical, electrical, environmental and biological hazards while repairing vehicles and equipment. Must be able to lift up to approximately 100 pounds regularly.

*This position is eligible for CDL Certification Pay of $80 per week for employees who have a valid Class A or B Texas Commercial Drivers license.
