Position Title and Details


  • Position Title: Maintenance Technician I

  • Position Type: Full-Time

  • Reports To: Chief Engineer

  • Pay Range: Up to $40/hr

  • Schedule: 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM


Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician I will be responsible for performing all repairs, adjustments, overhauls, and preventive maintenance tasks on various types of laundry or boiler room equipment. The technician must troubleshoot mechanical and electronic problems quickly and accurately, and may also perform required plumbing, carpentry, welding, or electrical tasks.


Essential Functions


  • Uses knowledge of industrial maintenance to repair, modify, or create new parts for mechanical equipment, analyzing equipment visually and audibly to determine needed repairs and using color‑coded wiring schemes.

  • Concentrates to manually set up and use a 250‑amp electrical welding device, working in a laundry plant environment with lint, high temperatures, and cold weather.

  • Performs skilled mechanical/electrical work to troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain, repair, modify, and install machinery, equipment, physical structures, piping, and electrical systems in an automated commercial laundry facility according to specifications, blueprints, manuals, and schematic drawings.

  • Dismantles defective machines and equipment, replaces defective parts and motors, and adjusts feed mechanisms.

  • Operates machinery and equipment to determine the cause and extent of component or system failure through testing, visual inspection, and listening for unusual sounds to detect malfunctions.

  • Completes morning startup procedures for the plant, maintaining proper logs and work orders.

  • Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery using rags, brushes, and grease guns or other appropriate tools.

  • Installs, aligns, tensions, and maintains chain, sprocket drives, gear drives, belt drives, flexible couplings, pillow block bearings, shaft assemblies, brake assemblies, and pulleys.

  • Troubleshoots, operates, and maintains or repairs electrical and wiring systems, including programming or repairing automated machinery and equipment electronic components.

  • Knows HAZMAT, MSD, EPA, and OSHA requirements; reports accidents or emergencies; uses appropriate tools and complies with all safety policies; wears necessary PPE.

  • Safely operates forklifts/Manlifts and always wears proper safety equipment/harness.

  • Maintains an ongoing self‑improvement program to stay current with new equipment, standards, codes, and maintenance procedures.

  • Performs preventive maintenance daily when an engineer is on duty.

  • Reports to and collaborates with facility management on related issues.

  • Sets and maintains a professional work environment with staff.

  • Adheres to all safety procedures and policies.

  • Assists and performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications


  • High School, GED, or equivalent plus 2 to 4 years of related experience.

  • Proficient in electrical, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, hydraulic, pneumatic, and welding skills.

  • Can read, interpret, and analyze electrical and mechanical schematics, block diagrams, and flow charts.

  • Can perform scheduled preventive maintenance.

  • Is aware of occupational hazards and safety precautions.

  • Can lift moderately heavy objects up to 100 pounds, and bend, stoop, push, stand, pull, lift heavy loads, and walk for long periods.

  • Is computer literate and understands PLC principles.

  • Knows HAZMAT and OSHA requirements.

  • Demonstrates customer service, people, leadership, and organization skills with a track record of achieving positive business results.

  • Possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills.
