Job summary

The Sisters of Mercy of the Americas in Fremont, OH are seeking a Maintenance Technician I to support outdoor and indoor upkeep. This part-time, on-call role involves building and grounds maintenance, light repairs, and landscaping duties to keep the facility welcoming for staff and visitors.

Responsibilities include operations of mowers and hand tools, winter snow removal, and safe handling of equipment. A valid driver’s license and weekend availability are required; mission-driven environment

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of landscape maintenance experience.
  • Basic knowledge of maintenance and groundskeeping tasks.
  • Experience operating landscaping and maintenance equipment Safely.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Able to work flexible schedules including weekends, holidays, and rotating on-call coverage.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Experience using gas-powered/electric tools safely.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety practices and PPE standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other building systems.
  • Complete general building repairs and routine maintenance tasks.
  • Perform light plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work.
  • Paint and touch-up work as needed.
  • Assist with furniture moving, deliveries, trash removal, and event setups/breakdowns.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and training sessions.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation schedule.
  • Maintain exterior grounds including landscaping, mowing, and snow removal.
  • Keep outdoor areas clean, safe, and well maintained.
  • Safely operate landscaping and maintenance equipment including mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, plows, and hand tools.
  • Follow OSHA-related safety procedures and use PPE.

As a Maintenance Technician I, you will play a vital role in preserving safe, welcoming environments where this mission comes to life every day.

What You’ll Do

The Sisters of Mercy are seeking a dependable and motivated Maintenance Technician I to support the upkeep, safety, and appearance of our facility and grounds. This role is responsible for general building maintenance, light repairs, preventative maintenance tasks, and groundskeeping duties including landscaping and snow removal.

The ideal candidate will have prior landscape maintenance experience, basic maintenance knowledge, and the ability to safely operate landscaping and maintenance equipment.

Responsibilities

Flexibility is required as staff are also scheduled to work indoors based on the needs of the convent.

This is not a seasonal position. Winter (off-season) work will consist of indoor assignments.

General Maintenance
  • Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other building systems

Safety
  • Follow all workplace safety procedures and OSHA-related standards
  • Properly use PPE and maintain safe equipment operation
  • Report hazardous conditions or unsafe equipment promptly
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas at all times
