Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance and repair tasks across facilities.
  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment and systems and report hazards.
  • Set up furnishings and equipment for meetings and events.
  • Repair roofs, furniture, lighting and other building components.
  • Respond to emergencies and perform repairs during business hours.
  • Communicate maintenance requests via MS Teams and Gmail.
  • Maintain parts inventory and request supplies as needed.
  • Use hand tools and small power tools for repairs.
  • Paint and stain surfaces as required and perform custodial tasks.
  • Perform light landscaping and seasonal maintenance (snow/ice removal).

FSLA Classification: Hourly, Non-Exempt

Reports to: Facilities & Operations Manager

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Facilities Staff performs, with general supervision, a variety of semi-skilled to skilled work inspecting, maintaining and repairing property, plant and equipment to ensure that students, staff and the community are provided a safe, attractive and clean, and healthy environment for learning and work.

The Facilities Staff has experience in operations of or general building trade skills. Understanding and practical knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, masonry, and HVAC systems. Must possess good communication and customer-service skills. Must be knowledgeable of and follow safety rules, regulations and policies.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform general maintenance and repair tasks in a variety of areas and as assigned by the Facilities and Operations Manager.

Perform regular inspections of equipment and systems, reporting any abnormalities and hazards.

Perform general labor and set-up of furnishings and equipment for meetings, assemblies, classroom/playground activities and special events.

Repairs various items, systems and/or components (e.g. roofs, furniture, bleachers, fences, playground equipment, concrete walkways, air conditioning equipment, door locks, lockers, sinks, toilets, clogged drains, light fixtures, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition.

Respond to emergency situations and perform necessary repairs during business hours. (e.g., broken/clogged drains, faucets, sprinkler heads, fixtures).

Use internal communications programs (MS Teams & GMail) to communicate about maintenance requests

Maintain an adequate supply of parts and supplies usually used in repairs and request needed supplies through established procedures.

Use and maintain a variety of hand tools and small power tools

Re-lamp a variety of lighting fixtures types

Use and maintain a variety of light duty custodial equipment and tools, including but not limited to: Mops, brooms, dusters, etc.

Perform light landscaping work such as blowing leaves, pruning, or cleanup.

Perform snow and ice removal as needed in conjunction with landscaping vendor.

Use of a variety of grounds maintenance and outdoor power equipment such as leaf vacuums, blowers, edgers, chain saw, snowblowers, pressure washers, etc.

Requires the operation of pickup trucks, vans, power lift equipment

Perform painting and staining

Requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all jobs or tasks requiring PPE equipment

Display a cooperative and pleasant attitude at all times.

Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors

Daily hours set to cover the school day, occasional evening or weekend hours assigned as needed to cover special events

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma is required.

One year certificate from college or technical school is preferred

Possess a basic understanding of building operations and maintenance

Possess an active and valid driver’s license

Ability to speak, read, write and understand English

Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled environment

Work outside in weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold

Must be a self-starter and able to efficiently move between tasks throughout the day.

Able to work independently

Use computers and/or electronic equipment to fulfill job functions.

Working knowledge of Notre Dame de Sion Schools organizational policies and procedures including appropriate human resources compliance

An ability to recognize problems and implement the appropriate solution

Willingness to learn and expand trade knowledge of maintenance and facilities

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Prolonged standing, walking, bending and stooping; lifting and carrying objects up to 50lbs. on level surfaces and/or stairways, on ladders and on lifts up to 35’ high

Sufficient vision (with correction) to use close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception along with ability to focus vision.

Able to hear and speak clearly

Reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers to handle objects and operate tools, computers and controls.
