Maintenance Technicians are individuals with strong mechanical and electrical background, capable of independently completing tasks as well as being part of a team responsible for performing a range of highly diversified and technically challenging duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial manufacturing and facility equipment (HVAC, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic systems, etc.).

This includes repairs to all production machinery and equipment (from basic mechanical repairs to electrical repairs, and electronic control system repairs) as well as general upkeep of facility infrastructures, power distribution, pluming, lighting, compressed air distribution systems, etc. This role is also responsible for providing preventive and corrective maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulics at component level of production machines and equipment such as metal fabricating machine tools and material handling systems. Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, and electrical and electronic control system components of industrial/facility equipment and machinery.

Technicians keep a work environment based on efficiency and safety; are detail orientated, proactive, adaptable, and have a strong work ethic. In addition, Maintenance Technicians are responsible for overseeing/keeping the building and surrounding external grounds in clean and orderly condition.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  • Must have qualifications/knowledge/set of skills to work with low voltage (control), single and three phase AC/DC 110 -480 Volts, and follow safety standards (LOTO, OSHA, NFPA, local codes, etc.)
  • Inspects, tests, diagnoses, and troubleshoots production equipment, listens for unusual sounds from equipment to detect malfunctions.
  • Gathers information from primarily operators, supervisors, and other technicians to get familiarized with normal operation of machinery/equipment.
  • Following safety protocols, (LOTO) and aided with applicable electric, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic schematics, effectively dismantles machines and equipment to gain access to troubled areas, repairs and/or installs new parts, additionally cleans and treats surrounding serviceable points (bearings, shafts, chains, belts, etc.)
  • Troubleshoots and repairs electrical apparatus, such as transformers, wiring, electrical and electronic components of machinery.
  • Understands how integration of different systems works on a CNC machining center, PLCs, VFDs, automated production lines, etc. And uses that skill to solve issues associated with such equipment in a timely manner, keeping down time to a minimum.
  • Knowledge of robotics and fully automated systems, diagnosis, troubleshooting, light programming, not required, but desired.
  • After suffering a crash or during PMs and/or inspections, machinery and equipment often tends to be found out of specs/calibration. Technicians must become familiar with the procedures to reestablish manufacturers' specs; realignment becomes necessary when equipment is no longer able to produce acceptable parts with accuracy and repeatability.
  • Proficient in use of wide variety of hand and power tools, electrical measurement equipment (multimeter, voltmeter, amp meters, oscilloscope, mugger) pressure gauges, instruments for testing/calibrating, precision machining tools (calipers, micrometers, depth/height gauges, indicators, etc.) In addition, technicians can operate lathes, grinders, drill presses, milling machines, to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures, and tools.
  • Technicians know how to operate cutting and welding equipment (cutting/heating torches, plasma cutters, SMAW, TIG, MIG, etc.) are also familiar with applicable procedures requiring “hot work permits”
  • Certification required to operate a variety of material handling equipment (cranes, lift trucks, scissor lifts, man lifts, boom lifts, etc.) Company provides Internal/external training and certification.
  • Demonstrate quick response to equipment breakdowns, maintenance work orders, and emergency repairs.
  • Accurately track and record keeping of maintenance work orders, scheduling and performance of preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance activities, parts used, spent time on a specific task, report creating, assisted by CMMS, have basic computer skills.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of arc flash and follow key safety practices, use of appropriate PPE, and all available training.
  • Oversee and follow all Lock-Out/Tag Out procedures to assure personal safety and safety of others relative to equipment/facility maintenance activities and operations. Assure that areas under repair/maintenance are safeguarded during such activities to protect other associates from injury/illness.
  • Technicians must repair and maintain the physical structure of an establishment in both office/plant areas. Fabricates and repairs walls, counters, benches, partitions, and other basic constructed/wooden structures. Repairs fences, gates, walls, and walks of facilities/grounds. Ensures plant compliance with EPA and OSHA regulations as it relates to maintenance and production activities.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures, guidelines, and regulations applicable to each individual instance to follow regulatory requirements.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and inspect the work of 3rd party contractors to ensure work is completed safely, to agreed-upon/understood contractual requirements, and in a timely manner.
  • Able and willing to travel to and from Omaha and Harlan for special projects, training, and support of maintenance team.
  • Assure all walkways/parking lots are kept clear (to extent possible) of snow/ice during winter months. Make minor repairs to equipment such as spreaders and snow removal equipment.
  • Ideally be on the CXW Safety Committee.
  • Maintain and sustain 5S within the maintenance department/work areas.
  • Supports and upholds CXW Quality, Environmental, and EHS/ZERO Harm policies.
  • Uphold Core Values and conduct themselves in accordance with desired behaviors.
  • Serve as a trainer for safety policies, standard operating procedures of equipment and safety, and use of process equipment after repair.
  • Maintenance Technicians will occasionally be called out off regular hours as needs arise. This includes weekends and holidays, adjusted shift start and end hours, and length of shift hours. Additionally, this position will require overtime hours when needed, both scheduled and unscheduled.
  • Other duties may be assigned as required

NOTE: Senior Maintenance Technicians have demonstrated technical expertise and experience level above/beyond that of a standard Maintenance Technician. Senior Maintenance Technicians are considered technical advisors and mentors to standard Maintenance Technicians. Inspect completed work of other Maintenance Technicians to assure conformance to OEM requirements, regulatory codes, or other established standards of performance.

Senior Maintenance Technicians will be relied upon for more advanced troubleshooting abilities, more advanced electrical, mechanical, and electronic control system maintenance/repairs. Sr. Maintenance Technicians have certified skills and electronic control system programming skills.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • A two-year associate's degree in industrial maintenance or a related field is a plus.
  • Or 5 years of related field experience in lieu of education.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Employees must be willing and able to successfully pass our in-house forklift & overhead crane certification program prior to operating these machines within our facility. Operating these machines is an essential function of this role. This certification program will assess proficiency in safe operation according to our company’s standards and protocols. Training will be provided.

Have or be able to obtain EPA 608 certification to handle refrigerants while working safely and environmentally responsibly on various HVAC systems.

In addition to having highly active problem-solving skills, technicians are encouraged to stay up to date with technology, be resourceful, open-minded, and always look for new ways to accomplish tasks.
