Job summary

Southwest Virginia Community Health Systems, Inc. (SVCHS) is seeking a dependable Maintenance Technician to support the maintenance of our buildings, grounds, equipment, tools, and company vehicles.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience in building maintenance, groundskeeping, custodial services, facilities maintenance, or related field preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance and tools.
  • Ability to perform basic preventive maintenance on lawn and groundskeeping equipment.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and work assignments.
  • Dependable attendance and ability to work independently.
  • Good communication with employees, patients, vendors, and visitors.
  • Valid driver’s license may be required for operation of company vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the appearance, safety, and functionality of assigned buildings, grounds, parking areas, and fitness courses.
  • Mow grass and trim around buildings, trees, shrubs, walkways, and other landscaped areas.
  • Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, parking lots, entrances, and fitness courses.
  • Repair cracks, potholes, and other minor conditions affecting parking lots, walkways, and fitness courses.
  • Perform minor building and grounds repairs, including basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work within the employee’s level of training and authorization.
  • Inspect and regularly replace heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning filters.
  • Maintain mowers, weed eaters, and other groundskeeping equipment through routine cleaning, oil and filter changes, lubrication, and basic preventive maintenance.
  • Maintain assigned tools and equipment in safe, clean, and working condition.
  • Keep storage areas and shelving clean, orderly, and properly organized.
  • Select and safely use the appropriate tools and equipment for each assigned task.
  • Clean and assist with maintaining company vehicles in an appropriate and serviceable condition.
  • Complete routine preventive maintenance assignments and promptly report needed repairs.
  • Follow OSHA standards, safety procedures, and required training.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions, equipment concerns, and other potential safety issues to the Operations Coordinator.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance, inspection, or service records as required.
  • Assist with other facility-related duties necessary to support safe and efficient organizational operations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in building maintenance, groundskeeping, custodial services, facilities maintenance, or a related field preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance, hand and power tools, and minor building repairs.
  • Ability to perform basic preventive maintenance on lawn and groundskeeping equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures, equipment instructions, and work assignments.
  • Ability to recognize maintenance and safety concerns and report them promptly.
  • Dependable attendance, good judgment, and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with employees, patients, vendors, and visitors.
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record may be required for operation of company vehicles.
Physical and Work Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive physical tasks.
  • Ability to safely lift and carry materials, tools, and equipment associated with maintenance work.
  • Ability to safely use ladders, hand tools, power tools, lawn equipment, and snow-removal equipment.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Ability to respond to seasonal needs, including mowing, snow removal, and ice treatment.
  • Ability to use required personal protective equipment and comply with all workplace safety requirements.
