Job summary

Hampton City Schools is seeking a Maintenance Technician for the Food and Nutrition Services department to maintain and repair kitchen equipment across all FNS kitchens. This full-time position requires a self-motivated individual with strong technical skills and a start date of immediately.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED, EPA Section 608 HVAC certification, and at least five years of electrical maintenance experience; journeyman license preferred.

Qualifications

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED.
  • Journeyman electrical license preferred; apprenticeship and/or technical training.
  • Not less than five years of experience in electrical maintenance and repair.
  • Must hold EPA Section 608 HVAC Certification for refrigeration usage.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, diagrams, drawings, prints, schematics, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and repairs kitchen equipment and fixtures across all Hampton City Schools – Food and Nutrition Services kitchens.
  • Performs routine maintenance, inspections, and repair on tools, equipment, and assigned systems.
  • Coordinates work and support with contractors and internal maintenance staff; may monitor project costs.
  • Point of contact for all departmental work orders and after-hours emergencies.
  • Establishes communication with building administrators and utilities as required.
  • Maintains files on critical blueprints and specifications.
  • Schedules city inspections and permits as needed.
  • Reviews and analyzes expenditures for materials and tools.
  • Provides attendance records and work order reports to FNS timekeeper.
  • Follows Hampton City Schools policies/procedures, OSHA and EPA guidelines, and safety procedures.
  • Familiarity with National Electrical Code and National Fire and Protection Codes.
  • Constructs and repairs furniture and furnishings as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position requires a strongly self‑motivated individual with high-level technical skills. The selected candidate will work to maintain and repair kitchen equipment and fixtures across all Hampton City Schools – Food and Nutrition Services kitchens.

  • Performs a variety of skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of school kitchen equipment and fixtures
  • Performs routine maintenance, inspections, and repair on tools, equipment, and assigned systems
  • Coordinates work and support with contractors and internal maintenance staff as required; may involve monitoring project costs
  • Point of contact for all departmental work orders and after‑hours emergencies
  • Establishes communication with building administrators and utilities as required
  • Maintains files on critical blueprints and specifications
  • Schedules city inspections and permits as needed
  • Reviews and analyze expenditures for materials and tools
  • Provides attendance records and work order reports to FNS timekeeper

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Requires a high school diploma or GED
  • Journeyman electrical license preferred;apprenticeship and/or documented technical training
  • Not less than five years of experience in electrical maintenance and repair
  • Must hold and maintain EPA Section 608 HVAC Certification for refrigeration usage
  • Ability to follow and give oral and written instructions, and to read and interpret plans, diagrams, drawings, prints, schematics, etc.
  • Knowledge of tools of the trade, utilizing meters, bending conduit, wiring methods, etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of national, state, and local codes and regulations applicable to this trade
  • Must be available to respond to after‑hours emergencies
  • Knowledge of security and fire systems
  • Must be able to lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods of time, bend/crawl, work in confined/high areas
  • Requires a valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record
