Job summary

The National Park Service at Carlsbad Caverns National Park in Carlsbad, NM is seeking a Maintenance Worker at the full performance level WG-07 to perform recurring building and utility maintenance and assist journeymen.

Responsibilities include using tools to repair structures and grounds, minor plumbing and carpentry, installing doors, shelves, and fixtures, and potentially painting, masonry, roofing, welding, or assisting higher graded staff.

Qualifications

• There is no substitution of education for experience for Federal Wage System (FWS) positions.
• No specific degrees or certifications are required beyond federal qualification standards.

Responsibilities

• Utilize a variety of materials, tools, and equipment associated with the repair and maintenance of structures and grounds.
• Perform minor plumbing repairs of limited difficulty such as tightening or replacing in-kind fittings and fixtures.
• Perform minor carpentry repairs of limited difficulty to buildings and quarters.
• Construct, install, repair and replace items such as doors, shelves, supply racks, hardware, frame structures, windows, trim and cabinets.
• May perform painting, masonry work, roofing, welding or assisting higher grade worker with maintenance of utility systems.
• Perform routine maintenance at different sites and visitor facilities, including cleaning restrooms and making minor repairs as needed.
