RR Donnelley in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic 3 for a 3rd shift (approx. 11:00pm–7:00am). The role focuses on installation, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of forms and labels machinery to meet demanding production schedules.

You will diagnose complex mechanical, electrical (up to 480V), hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, read schematics, and support safety programs including LOTO. Prior experience in high-speed printing or packaging environments is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• 3–5 years maintenance experience in a high‑speed manufacturing environment.
• Experience diagnosing and repairing 3‑phase electrical systems (up to 480V) and mechanical drives.
• Ability to read schematics and technical manuals for industrial machinery.
• Strong safety commitment and OSHA knowledge.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in tight spaces.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair forms and labels machinery including presses and coaters.
• Develop and execute a Preventative Maintenance program with the team.
• Perform scheduled PMs and unscheduled repairs of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Diagnose problems with web handling systems, servo drives, and registration equipment.
• Read manuals and blueprints for overhauls and precise maintenance work.
• Operate CMMS to record work orders, labor hours, and parts.
• Comply with safety rules including LOTO and maintain clean work areas.
• Collaborate with operators and supervisors to reduce downtime.

Maintenance Mechanic 3 - M-F 3rd Shift (approx. 11:00pm to 7:00am) starting at $31.00 per hour including the premium shift differential!

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing highly diversified duties related to the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of specialized forms and labels machinery. This role is critical to ensuring the continuous, safe, and efficient operation of all equipment and machinery to meet demanding production schedules.

Qualifications

• Ensure the safe and efficient operation of forms and labels production machinery including but not limited to presses, die-cutters, coaters, rewinders, slitters, balers, wrappers, and sheeters.
• Collaborate with the maintenance team and Operations Manager to create and implement a Preventative Maintenance (PM) program for the
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) on all production machinery and site equipment.
• Execute emergency and unscheduled repairs of complex mechanical, electrical (up to 480V), hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
• Diagnose and repair intricate problems related to web handling systems, tension control, servo drives, and registration systems common in forms and labels operations.
• Read and interpret detailed equipment manuals, electrical schematics, and mechanical blueprints to perform precise maintenance service and overhauls on production assets.
• Provide skilled mechanical support, including basic welding, fabrication, and precision alignment of rollers, gears, and other critical press components.
• Provide electrical/electronic support, including troubleshooting Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), sensors, and process control instrumentation.
• Enter all work orders, labor hours, and parts usage into the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) accurately and promptly.
• Comply with all safety regulations, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and maintain clean and orderly work areas in a manufacturing environment.
• Collaborate closely with operators and production supervisors to identify recurring issues, improve machine reliability, and minimize downtime.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Experience

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• A minimum of 3-5 years of hands‑on maintenance experience, preferably within a printing, packaging, web converting, or similar high‑speed manufacturing environment.
• Proven expertise in diagnosing and repairing three‑phase electrical systems (up to 480V), mechanical drive systems, and complex pneumatic/hydraulic controls.
• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret schematics and technical manuals specific to industrial printing machinery.
• Strong commitment to safety and adherence to all OSHA regulations.
• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in tight or elevated spaces

Preferred Skills

• Associate’s degree or technical certification in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• Experience providing maintenance support on machinery manufactured by Jennerjahn, Rotoflex, Toppan Moore, EVTEC, VITS, Sanford.
• Experience with PLC troubleshooting and minor program modifications (e.g., Allen‑Bradley, Siemens).
• Working knowledge of process control systems, vision systems, and quality inspection equipment used in label and forms production.

Additional Information

3rd Shift Position Hours (1 position available): Approx. 11:00pm to 7:00am. Qualified candidates must be able to work evening and morning hours. There is a $3.00 per hour premium shift differential.

The pay range for this role at the noted location is $28.00 - $32.00 per hour. The actual rate of pay offered may vary based upon, but not limited to education, skills, experience, proficient, performance, shift, and location. In addition to the base salary, depending on the role, the total compensation package may also include a sign‑on bonus, overtime, shift differential, call‑in and stand‑by pay.
