Job summary

Huntington Chamber in Indiana is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to perform routine and preventative maintenance across plant equipment. You will dismantle, repair, and replace components, clean and lubricate parts, and ensure production runs smoothly.

Ideal candidates have forklift certification, ability to lift heavy loads, willingness to overtime, and basic electrical knowledge; factory environment, 5S focus, and safety compliance required.

Qualifications

  • Certified forklift operator.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs routinely and 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance.
  • Willingness to overtime and weekends.
  • Strong reading and instruction-following skills.
  • Electrical knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Dismantles machines, replaces parts, and adjusts feed mechanisms.
  • Cleans and lubricates machine parts such as shafts, pulleys, gears, and bearings.
  • Replaces or repairs machine belts; clears drains and replaces plumbing fixtures.
  • Operates welding machine to repair or join metal parts.
  • Prepares and sets up machinery for scheduled production runs.
  • Performs preventative maintenance work orders on time.
  • Participates in changeovers and startup operations.
  • Maintains a clean, safe work area and follows EH&S rules.

Job description

SUMMARY:

Perform all maintenance requirements throughout the plant.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Dismantles machines or equipment, replaces defective parts, and adjusts feed mechanisms.
  • Cleans and lubricates machine parts such as shafts, pulleys, gears, and bearings.
  • Replaces or repairs machine belts.
  • Removes dust, dirt, grease, and waste material from machines.
  • Paints machines or equipment to prevent corrosion.
  • Bends and cuts conduit and wire, and drills holes in walls, floors, and ceilings for electrical connections.
  • Bends, cuts, and threads pipe, cuts openings in walls, ceilings, and floors for pipes, and seals pipe joints with sealing compound.
  • Cuts out and joins parts for worktables, benches, shelves, and other furnishings.
  • Patches or replaces plaster or plaster board and paints walls, ceilings, and trim of building.
  • Clears clogged drains and replaces plumbing fixtures.
  • Operates welding machine to repair or join metal parts.
  • Performs preventative maintenance work orders on a timely basis.
  • Cleans work area, tools, and equipment.
  • Prepares and sets up machinery for scheduled production runs.
  • Complies with all Environment Health and Safety Rules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform routine maintenance on all equipment directly or indirectly related to the production operations.
  • Perform changeovers and start-up operations.
  • Participate in idea program, collective system design and production meetings.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Certified forklift operator.
  • Attention to detail in the workplace.
  • Able to lift 25 lbs. (routinely) & 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Available for overtime before and after shifts and weekends.
  • Organized and able to read and follow instructions.
  • Proven prior maintenance work experience
  • Good mathematical and reasoning skills.
  • Electrical knowledge preferred.
MACHINERY USED:

Fork trucks, lifts, maintenance repair equipment, hand tools.

CHEMICALS USED:

All chemicals throughout the plant See SDS listings.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Environment:

Enclosed structure with moderate temperatures ranging from 55 degrees to 100 degrees. Higher temperatures near the oven for short periods of time. Noise levels up to 94db. All work is performed at the normal standing level. Plant environment is clean and safe with a focus on 5S.
