About the Opportunity

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining college buildings, grounds, equipment, and systems to ensure a safe, functional, and attractive learning environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position performs preventative maintenance, repairs, inspections, and general upkeep of campus facilities, including classrooms, offices, residence halls, and common areas.

Goal of the Position

To provide efficient and reliable maintenance services that support a safe, functional, and welcoming campus environment while minimizing disruptions to college operations and educational activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair work on campus buildings and equipment.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and building systems.
  • Respond to maintenance work orders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Repair doors, windows, locks, ceilings, floors, walls, and fixtures.
  • Perform locksmith duties including making keys, repining locks, and distributing keys when necessary. We can provide training for this responsibility.
  • Assist with plumbing issues, including leaks, clogged drains, and fixture repairs.
  • Assist with basic electrical repairs such as replacing outlets, switches, lighting fixtures, and bulbs.
  • Assist with snow removal, and debris cleanup as needed.
  • Set up and dismantle furniture and equipment for college events, meetings, and special programs.
  • Inspect facilities regularly to identify safety hazards and maintenance needs.
  • Operate maintenance tools, equipment, and vehicles safely and effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, building codes, and institutional policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and equipment maintenance.
  • Assist contractors and vendors working on campus projects.
  • Participate in emergency response activities and after-hours maintenance support when required.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of maintenance, facilities, construction, or related experience.
  • Working knowledge of building maintenance systems and repair techniques.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely.
  • Basic understanding of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry systems.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to read and follow technical manuals, work orders, and safety procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical certification in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or a related trade.
  • Experience working in educational, commercial, or institutional facilities.
  • OSHA safety training or certification.
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work independently.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Capability to perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
Working Conditions
  • Exposure to mechanical equipment, cleaning chemicals, dust, and noise.
  • May require evening, weekend, holiday, or on‑call work.
  • Work is performed in classrooms, offices, residence halls, athletic facilities, and outdoor campus environments.
