Job summary

Tofurky is hiring a Maintenance Technician II for our Hood River, Oregon facility. This is a full‑time onsite role on production lines, packaging, and material handling equipment.

You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshoot electrical and PLC‑controlled systems, and support line startups and changeovers. The position requires at least 5 years of industrial maintenance experience, strong electrical skills, and familiarity with CMMS/ERP systems.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of industrial maintenance in a manufacturing environment
  • High school diploma or GED; technical training preferred
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting across 24VDC, 120/240/480VAC and three‑phase systems
  • Experience troubleshooting PLC‑controlled production equipment (Allen‑Bradley or similar)
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Working knowledge of VFDs, motor controls, sensors, HMIs, and automated control systems
  • Proficiency using electrical testing equipment and standard maintenance tools
  • Experience with CMMS/ERP systems
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills
  • Effective communication and teamwork
  • Ability to work cross‑functionally to resolve equipment and process issues

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and OEM manuals
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic failures on food equipment
  • Perform advanced electrical troubleshooting with diagnostic tools
  • Troubleshoot PLC‑controlled equipment and sensors
  • Install/repair motors, VFDs, relays, transformers, sensors, and control devices
  • Conduct preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on production lines
  • Respond quickly to downtime while upholding food safety and quality
  • Assist with startups, changeovers, and commissioning of new equipment
  • Conduct root‑cause analysis and implement corrective actions
  • Maintain maintenance records, work orders, and parts inventory
  • Ensure compliance with LOTO, OSHA, GMPs, HACCP
  • Maintain a clean, organized maintenance shop and area

Job description

Tofurky is hiring a Maintenance Technician II to join our Maintenance team! This is a full-time onsite position at our Hood River, Oregon facility.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and OEM manuals.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic failures on food processing and packaging equipment.
  • Perform advanced electrical troubleshooting using wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, multimeters, clamp meters, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment by identifying electrical faults, failed inputs/outputs, sensors, motor controls, communication issues, and component failures.
  • Install, repair, and replace motors, VFDs, controllers, overloads, relays, power supplies, transformers, circuit breakers, sensors, photo eyes, proximity switches, limit switches, encoders, and control devices.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on production, packaging, conveyor, and material‑handling equipment.
  • Respond quickly to equipment failures to minimize downtime while maintaining food safety and product quality.
  • Assist with equipment startups, changeovers, line adjustments, and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Perform root‑cause analysis on recurring equipment failures and recommend corrective actions to improve reliability.
  • Work closely with production, quality, sanitation, and other teams to resolve equipment issues efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and parts inventory.
  • Ensure compliance with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), OSHA regulations, and company safety policies.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), HACCP requirements, allergen control procedures, and sanitary maintenance practices.
  • Perform maintenance activities in a manner that supports food safety and minimizes contamination risks.
  • Maintain a clean and organized maintenance shop and work area.
Qualifications (Required Education and Experience)
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or vocational training in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Electrical Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably food or beverage manufacturing.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills involving 24VDC, 120VAC, 240VAC, 480VAC, and three‑phase industrial systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting PLC‑controlled production equipment (Allen‑Bradley, or similar).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Working knowledge of VFDs, motor controls, industrial sensors, HMIs, and automated control systems.
  • Proficiency using electrical testing equipment and standard maintenance tools.
  • Experience using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and/or ERPs.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work cross‑functionally to resolve equipment and process issues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with food processing, packaging, filling, and conveying equipment.
  • Basic PLC programming or online troubleshooting experience.
  • Certification in NFPA 70E Electrical Safety, OSHA safety training, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of BRC, HACCP, GMP, and food safety regulations.
Physical Demands

This job operates in an office setting with frequent exposure to the production areas.

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, or crouch for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, climb ladders, and work in hot, cold, or wet conditions.
  • Comfortable working in wet, noisy, or varied temperature environments.
  • Ability to use ladders, work in tight spaces, and move equipment as needed.
  • Comfortable working in outside weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a hourly, non‑exempt position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This role is on‑site and remote work is not offered. Flexibility in the work schedule is occasionally required to accommodate needs of staff on multiple shifts based on business priorities. Infrequently required to work on weekends based on needs of the business.
