Job summary

Industrial Maintenance Technician – Brief Description

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Industrial Maintenance Technician to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our frozen vegetable processing and packaging facility. The position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving production and facility equipment to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate has strong mechanical troubleshooting skills and experience working with industrial production equipment. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, equipment repair, installation of replacement components, and basic electrical troubleshooting associated with industrial equipment. Minor electrical maintenance, such as replacing motors, sensors, switches, lighting, and other equipment components, may be performed as part of routine maintenance activities. Any electrical work requiring licensing or specialized electrical expertise will be performed under the supervision or direction of a licensed electrician in accordance with company policy and applicable regulations.

Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair production, processing, packaging, and facility equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automated equipment, including basic electrical components related to equipment operation.
  • Perform routine replacement of motors, sensors, switches, lighting fixtures, and similar equipment components as part of preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Assist with troubleshooting motor controls, PLC-controlled equipment, variable frequency drives (VFDs), relay logic, and low‑voltage control systems under the direction of qualified personnel when necessary.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime and restore production.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance according to established maintenance schedules.
  • Assist with installation, startup, commissioning, and improvement of new equipment and production lines.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete work orders.
Mechanical Maintenance
  • Repair and replace bearings, chains, sprockets, belts, pumps, seals, gearboxes, pneumatic components, and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance on conveyors, washers, graders, blanchers, fillers, baggers, palletizers, compressors, and other processing equipment.
  • Perform welding and basic metal fabrication to repair equipment, guards, supports, and facility components.
  • Lubricate, inspect, adjust, and align production equipment to maintain optimal performance.
  • Support general facility maintenance as needed.
Electrical & Controls
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of industrial equipment electrical systems, including motors, sensors, disconnects, control panels, and low‑voltage control circuits.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals to assist with equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Support troubleshooting of automated production equipment utilizing PLCs and variable frequency drives.
  • Assist licensed electricians with electrical repairs, equipment installations, modifications, and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Assist with troubleshooting refrigeration and process control systems under appropriate supervision.
  • Safely use electrical testing equipment, including multimeters and clamp meters, as required for routine maintenance, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance.
Preferred Skills
  • Strong troubleshooting abilities involving mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems.
  • Experience working with PLC-controlled equipment, VFDs, motor controls, sensors, and automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Working knowledge of industrial production equipment and electrical systems commonly found in manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, equipment manuals, and mechanical drawings.
  • Welding and fabrication experience (MIG/TIG preferred).
  • Experience using common maintenance testing equipment, including multimeters, clamp meters, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
Safety & Continuous Improvement
  • Follow all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), PPE, food safety, and company safety requirements.
  • Perform maintenance activities in accordance with company safety procedures and established electrical safety practices.
  • Support GMP, sanitation, and food safety requirements while performing maintenance activities.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and productivity.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Work collaboratively with operations, maintenance, and leadership personnel to support production goals.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical training, trade school, military technical training, or equivalent industrial maintenance experience preferred.
  • Three to five years of industrial maintenance experience in manufacturing, food processing, packaging, or similar industrial environments.
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical equipment and performing basic electrical maintenance associated with industrial machinery.
  • Experience replacing motors, sensors, switches, control devices, and other common maintenance components.
  • Mechanical maintenance experience involving pumps, conveyors, bearings, gearboxes, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
  • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
  • Food manufacturing, refrigerated warehouses, or frozen food processing experience is preferred.
  • Industrial refrigeration experience is beneficial but not required.
  • Experience working alongside or under the supervision of licensed electricians is preferred.
  • Ability to safely perform maintenance while following Lockout/Tagout procedures and established safety practices.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, rotating shifts, or emergency call‑ins as production requires.
Physical Requirements
  • Lift up to 60 pounds.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Climb ladders and work from elevated platforms.
  • Work in cold, wet, noisy, and refrigerated production environments.
  • Perform work in confined or restricted spaces when necessary.
  • Safely use hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and maintenance machinery.
  • Maintain sufficient manual dexterity, mobility, vision, and hearing to safely perform maintenance activities.
