Garmin is seeking a full-time Industrial Equipment Maintenance Technician 2 for the Greater Kansas City area. The role focuses on maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment and conveyor systems in Manufacturing and Warehousing/Shipping within Operations.

The position runs a 4 Day Work Week from Saturday to Tuesday, 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and requires knowledge of conveyors, sensors, and industrial controls. A technical trade program or degree plus maintenance experience is expected.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or 2+ years maintenance experience.
  • Experience with conveyor equipment, live rollers, belts, electric motors, sensors, pneumatic equipment and industrial controls.
  • Experience with automated assembly, testing, and conveying equipment.
  • Knowledge of Level 1 skills plus basic trouble shooting of mechanical/electrical machines and parts warehousing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic preventive maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting and repair of mechanical equipment and conveyors.
  • Apply industry standards to develop, implement, and document operational processes.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment to minimize downtime and support productivity.
  • Mentor less experienced Maintenance Technicians (Level 1).
  • Coordinate with Planning, Purchasing, Production and Process Engineering.

Job description

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Industrial Equipment Maintenance Technician 2 (4 Day Work Week) at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for executing the daily operations of maintenance of common and/or moderately complex repairs of equipment in Manufacturing and Warehousing/Shipping areas within Operations.

4 Day Work Week/Weekend Shift: Saturday - Tuesday, 6 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Essential Functions
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting and repair of mechanical equipment and conveyor systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation, minimizing downtime and supporting continuous facility productivity
  • Apply industry standards and procedures to develop, implement, and document operational processes
  • Proficient use and knowledge of engineering tools
  • Analyze data to determine quality trends and implement corrective actions
  • Perform small projects and/or sub-projects as part of a greater project under the direction of a supervisor or mentor and able to work in conjunction with service providers
  • Analyze opportunities for cost and quality improvements
  • Completely execute Lock Out/Tag Out of equipment
  • Provide reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques
  • Identify process/quality improvements and offer suggestions for improvement
  • Demonstrate ability to identify & fix problems within a given trade
  • Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers
  • Coordinate between Planning, Purchasing, Production and Process Engineering
  • Serve as a mentor to less experienced Maintenance Technicians (Maintenance Level 1)
  • Cleanliness zone area requirements: This position requires Garmin provided personal protective equipment including SD shoes (Static Dissipative Footwear) to be always worn for an entire shift to minimize the risk of electrostatic discharge (ESD) and meet specified standards
Basic Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in a technical related field OR a minimum of 2 years maintenance experience OR completion/certification of a qualified technical trade program AND a minimum of 1 year demonstrated experience
  • Experience with conveyor equipment, live rollers, belts, electric motors, sensors, pneumatic equipment and industrial controls
  • Experience with automated assembly, testing, and conveying equipment
  • Successfully demonstrates knowledge of all skills from Level 1 plus the ability to trouble shoot mechanical/electrical machines and assemblies, operate within work order/PM database and process instructions, parts warehousing & organization, water softener operation, and general plumbing
  • Experience with pneumatic compressors system operation/ inspection
Desired Qualifications
  • Technical School Certification in Electronics, Industrial or Maintenance Technology or related facilities degree
  • Refrigerant license
  • Electrical Journeyman license
  • 5+ years related experience
