Job summary

Garmin Ltd. is seeking a full-time Process Technician (2nd Shift) to support automotive manufacturing at its U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. The role focuses on supporting Engineering in current and new manufacturing processes to ensure adherence to compliance and production standards.

The candidate will assist engineers with component procurement/design, develop production methods, and maintain work instructions while ensuring safety and operational efficiency across the line.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED with at least 3 years related production experience or equivalent
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to lift up to 55 pounds and stand for a full shift

Responsibilities

  • Assist Engineers in procurement, design of components, equipment fabrication/tooling and process improvements
  • Develop and improve production methods, layouts, tooling and equipment
  • Write rework shop orders, instructions and routings
  • Update work instructions and implement Engineering changes
  • Set up, operate and troubleshoot manufacturing equipment
  • Own assigned projects and tasks
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance on production equipment
  • Monitor production metrics and prepare reports
  • Ensure safety and ESD compliance on the production floor

Job description

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Process Technician (2nd Shift) -Automotive Manufacturing at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting Engineering in current and new manufacturing processes to ensure compliance and production standards are met.

Essential Functions
  • Assist Engineers in procurement and/or design of components, equipment fabrication/tooling and process improvements
  • Apply expertise to develop and continuously improve production methods including layout, production flow, tooling and production equipment, material, fabrication, and assembly methods requirements
  • Write rework shop orders, instructions and routings
  • Update and maintain work instructions and implement Engineering change orders
  • Assist manufacturing with the setup, operation and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment
  • Ability to own assigned projects and tasks
  • Coordinate and/or perform preventive maintenance on production equipment
  • Monitor statistical methods to analyze product or process performance
  • Manage production tools, jigs, and fixtures in accordance with documented Engineering requirements and Lean principles such as Poka Yoke
  • Assist management and process engineering in training production staff
  • Control expenditures within project budget
  • Prepare recommendations for reorganization of work cells and job duties to increase efficiency and eliminate excess steps and labor costs
  • Manage production metric data, prepare reports and present to peers and management
  • Evaluate equipment and processes to ensure associate safety
  • Cleanliness zone area requirements: This position requires Garmin provided personal protective equipment including SD shoes (Static Dissipative Footwear) to be always worn for an entire shift to minimize the risk of electrostatic discharge (ESD) and meet specified standards
Basic Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED AND a minimum of 3 years related production experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Superior organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail and quality
  • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to lift up to 55 pounds while using safe lifting techniques and standing for an entire shift
Desired Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in Electronics, Industrial, or Manufacturing Technology or a substantially related field
  • Previous experience with automated assembly and testing equipment
  • Previous experience with computer aided drafting (CAD) applications
  • Previous electronics soldering experience
  • Previous experience with IATF 16949, VDA, and APQP topics
  • Prefer previous experience in Quality at an AOEM Tier 1 or Tier 2 production facility
