Role Purpose / Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining equipment in accordance with electrical diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and/or manufacturer’s specifications. This while adhering to safety procedures and protocols and established Good Manufacturing Processes to ensure that product integrity and customers’ specifications are preserved. The Maintenance Technician will utilize an electronic CMMS system to document work orders for work performed.
Key Accountabilities / Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance such as inspecting drives, belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, and performing lubrication of shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of the machinery.
- Utilize an electronic CMMS system on a mobile device to document all work performed.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment including motors, pneumatics, electronic boards, PLCs, touch screens, displays, contactors, conveyors, blending, scaling, filling, cartoning, coding/printing, electrical, compressed air, vacuum, hydraulic, and bulk-filling systems using appropriate tools, precision measuring instruments, or electrical/electronic testing devices.
- Handle electricity systems related to production and plant support equipment ranging from single‑phase to three‑phase equipment with voltages ranging from 5VDC to 480VAC; manage electrical wiring, relay logic, control, and safety circuits using blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary.
- Disassemble and rebuild gearboxes, clutches, actuators, and other assemblies related to equipment repairs.
- Record and report damaged, worn, or broken parts.
- Thoroughly clean machines and machine parts, removing parts and reinstalling as necessary.
- Proficiently use all hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment such as drill presses, surface grinders, torches, plasma cutters, pipe threaders, broaches, presses, calipers, micrometers, and test equipment.
- Fabricate parts, guards, and part modifications for equipment repairs and improvements.
- Weld different grades of metal for repairs and fabrication using plant welding techniques (MIG, TIG, and Arc).
- Troubleshoot HVAC systems as needed.
- Follow all company policies, including general manufacturing and safety practices.
- Assume responsibility for Food Safety and Quality within the scope of the position and report issues timely to authorized personnel.
- Train junior or new technicians on equipment, procedures, and troubleshooting practices.
- Train operators or other support staff in best practices, operation, and setup of equipment.
- Complete preventative maintenance, product changeovers, corrective, and breakdown maintenance as requested.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Entry Level and Above: Ability to write work orders, parts requests, shift logs, routine reports, and correspondence; read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance manuals; stand, walk, bend, crouch, stoop, reach, stretch, step, climb, and/or sit frequently; lift up to 50lbs regularly and up to 100lbs occasionally; use ladders or stairs; coordinate eye, hand, and foot movements; use PC or tablet and handheld devices. Minimum of a high school diploma and at least 2years of experience in an industrial setting, preferably in the food manufacturing industry.
- Mid‑Level and Above: 2–6years of experience in a similar industrial role, preferably in the food manufacturing industry; 2‑year technical or community college degree preferred; experience with electrical controls; experience maintaining and troubleshooting electrical and electronic systems; basic–intermediate PLC troubleshooting; advanced-level 7years of experience preferred; AAS degree preferred.
- Advanced Level: 7years of experience in a similar industrial role, preferably in the food industry; 2‑year AAS degree preferred; advanced PLC troubleshooting skills; electrician’s license preferred; welding experience/certification preferred; metal fabrication experience preferred; MSI Express qualifications preferred.
