Role Purpose / Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining equipment in accordance with electrical diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and/or manufacturer’s specifications while adhering to safety procedures and Good Manufacturing Processes to ensure product integrity and customers’ specifications are preserved. The technician will use an electronic CMMS system to document work orders for work performed.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance such as inspecting drives, belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, and other preventive maintenance actions (e.g., lubrication of shafts, bearings, gears).
- Utilize an electronic CMMS system via a mobile device to document all work performed.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment including motors, pneumatics, electronic boards, PLCs, touch screens, displays, contactors, conveyors, blending, scaling, filling, cartoning/coding/printing, electrical, compressed air, vacuum, hydraulic, and bulk‑filling systems using appropriate tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Work with electricity systems ranging from single phase to three phase equipment with voltages of 5VDC–480VAC.
- Use electrical wiring, relay logic, control, and safety circuits by checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as needed.
- Perform teardown and rebuilds of gearboxes, clutches, actuators, and other assemblies related to equipment repairs.
- Record and report damaged, worn, or broken parts; thoroughly clean machines and parts, removing and reinstalling as necessary.
- Operate all hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment such as drill press, surface grinder, torch, plasma cutter, pipe threader, brakes, presses, calipers, micrometers, and test equipment.
- Fabricate parts, guarding, and part modifications for equipment repairs and improvements.
- Weld different grades of metal using MIG, TIG, or Arc techniques for repairs and fabrication.
- Troubleshoot HVAC systems as needed.
- Follow all company policies, including general manufacturing and safety practices.
- Responsibly manage Food Safety and Quality within the technician’s influence and report problems in a timely manner.
- Train junior or new technicians on equipment, procedures, and troubleshooting practices.
- Train operators or other support staff in best practices, operation, and setup of equipment.
- Complete preventative maintenance, product changeovers, corrective and breakdown maintenance as requested.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications (Entry Level and Above):
- Ability to write work orders, parts requests, shift logs, routine reports, and correspondence.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance manuals.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, crouch, stoop, reach, stretch, step, climb, and/or sit throughout the shift.
- Ability to use ladders and climb stairs.
- Good eye, hand, and foot coordination for proper task execution.
- PC or tablet competency and ability to use handheld devices.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly; occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds with or without assistance.
- High School Diploma required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in an industrial setting (preferably in food manufacturing).
- Mid‑Level and Above (2–6 years experience):
- 2–6 years of experience in an industrial setting in a similar role (preferably in food manufacturing).
- 2‑year technical or community college degree preferred.
- Experience with electrical controls.
- Experience in maintaining and troubleshooting electrical and electronic systems preferred.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of PLC troubleshooting preferred.
- Advanced Level (7+ years experience):
- 7 years of experience in an industrial setting in a similar role (preferably in food industry).
- 2-year AAS degree preferred.
- Advanced skills with troubleshooting PLCs preferred.
- Electrician’s license preferred.
- Welding experience/certification preferred.
- Metal fabrication experience preferred.
