Job description

Job Description

As employees of a farmer-owned cooperative, we come to work every day trying to honor the tireless effort and care these farming families put in every day, all day, 365 days a year. Our farmer-owners tend to think in generations, with some of our farms being run by the same families for over a century. We carry this approach into our business, knowing that each and every one of us makes a difference in allowing these traditions to continue, taking pride in knowing that we nourish our friends, neighbors, nation, and even the world with healthy and delicious dairy products. Our products include milk, flavored milk, yogurt, dip, sour cream, cottage cheese, and ice cream mix marketed under the Upstate Farms, Bison, Milk for Life, and Intense Milk brands.

Job Summary:

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for repairing and troubleshooting high-speed processing and packaging equipment, performing preventative maintenance, and installing systems and utilities within a 24/7 continuous dairy food processing facility. Must be a team player ensuring line efficiency goals are met. The work schedule for this position is a 10-hour shift that rotates days, either 2:00 pm - 12:30 am or 10:00 pm - 8:30 am. Multiple openings are available.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ability to troubleshoot and correct issues using skills in industrial electrical 480V, AC/DC theory, hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, mechanical maintenance, motors, digital electronics, print reading, control circuits, power supplies, power distribution, test instruments, and computers.
  • Understand operational urgency and support production requirements.
  • Ensure safe operating practices for oneself and other operators.
  • Use established preventative maintenance programs to maintain operating systems.
  • Repair and replace defective parts.
  • Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments.
  • Repair electrical instrumentation and control equipment.
  • Work effectively with maintenance, engineering, and operations teams, demonstrating good communication skills.
  • Boiler operation and ammonia experience are a plus.
  • Must meet a minimum of a twelfth-grade level in math and reading.
  • Must complete a Maintenance Skills Evaluation.

Experience & Education Requirements:

  • An associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or one year of related mechanical maintenance experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

Work Environment:

While performing these duties, employees are regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. Occasionally, they may encounter wet or humid conditions, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, and extreme cold or heat. The noise level is usually very loud.

Pay: $26.23 - $36.23/hr.
