Job description

Perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and limited construction duties on facilities, equipment, and grounds.


WHO MAY APPLY:

This recruitment is open to all applicants meeting the minimum requirements. Priority consideration will be given to Spokane County employees in a position covered by the Master Contract submitting applications between 4/21/25 and 4/25/25. First consideration will be given to applicants working in Fair and Expo in a position covered by the 1553 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA); second consideration given to County-wide applicants in a position covered by the 1553 CBA; third consideration given to applicants covered by the Master Contract CBA; fourth consideration will be given to all other applicants.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Perform semi-skilled construction and repair of new and existing facilities by laying out and building forms for concrete work (floor and foundations), performing minor carpentry work such as assisting in the construction of benches, lockers, and general rough carpentry only, painting, laying rock or concrete block, cement finishing, plumbing, framing, electrical, and roofing under supervision.
  2. Perform general maintenance, overhaul, and repair work on small and/or light equipment; i.e., mowing equipment, tools, and sprinkler parts; adjustment and replacement of parts to ensure the effective functioning of equipment.
  3. Perform general maintenance, repair, and installation of irrigation systems by operating ditching machines, gluing fittings, installing electric and hydraulic valves, sprinkler heads, and time clocks.
  4. Perform general janitorial/maintenance activities in facilities, including replenishing supplies and cleaning restrooms.
  5. Perform general maintenance and improvement of grounds by mowing, edging, sweeping, raking, trimming, cutting weeds; assist in planting flowers and shrubbery, fertilizing, and pruning trees and shrubs.
  6. Assist in coordinating activities of on-site inmate work crews in above areas.
  7. Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements: Any combination of experience and training which would display an ability to do the jobs.

LICENSE: Valid driver's license.

Knowledge of:

  • Basic maintenance and operation practices and procedures as required for the area of work.
  • Equipment operation as needed for the work.
  • Safe operating procedures for light and medium equipment.

Ability to:

  • Follow instructions given orally and/or in writing (e.g., sketches and drawings).
  • Effectively communicate and work with co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
