Job summary

Fort Wayne Housing Authority is seeking a reliable Maintenance Technician to join our team. This role focuses on hands-on maintenance, safety, and quality workmanship across FWHA properties in varying weather conditions.

The technician will inspect and repair building systems, perform routine preventive maintenance, and assist residents and vendors as needed. A valid Indiana driver’s license and 2+ years of trade experience are required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in building maintenance, construction, or related skilled trade.
  • Valid Indiana driver’s license with insurability requirements.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to perform a variety of general maintenance and repair tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair building systems and equipment across FWHA properties.
  • Conduct routine inspections of buildings, grounds, parking areas, and walkways.
  • Complete general maintenance tasks, including minor repairs and equipment upkeep.
  • Diagnose issues by evaluating control panels, electrical systems, and related components.
  • Maintain and operate grounds equipment, tools, and motorized machinery.
  • Participate in rotating after-hours emergency on-call schedule (approximately every 7 weeks).
  • Apply paint and finishes as needed.
  • Perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs., digging, loading/unloading materials, and installing components.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately complete work orders in a timely manner
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with residents, team members, contractors, and vendors
  • Approach work with initiative, strong problem‑solving skills, and a collaborative mindset

Work Environment

  • Work takes place across multiple FWHA properties, both indoors and outdoors, in varying weather conditions
  • Regular interaction with residents and coordination with contractors and vendors

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in building maintenance, construction, or a related skilled trade
  • Valid Indiana driver's license with the ability to meet FWHA insurability requirements
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems
  • Ability to perform a variety of general maintenance and repair tasks
