Job summary

Sandvik is seeking a Maintenance Technician to ensure operation of CNC machines and related equipment by performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs per diagrams, manuals and engineering specs. The role requires hands-on electrical, mechanical and hydraulic work in a manufacturing setting.

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office knowledge and/or Computerized Maintenance Management System is desired.

Job Title: Maintenance Technician Department: Maintenance Reports to: Production Unit Manager Classification: Non-Exempt Location: Varies Travel: As Necessary

Job Summary

Responsible for ensuring operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements on CNC machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations and manuals, manufacturer’s instructions and engineering specifications. Troubleshooting malfunctions and repairs where necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Receive work orders, identify faulty equipment, and acquire parts and equipment to complete repairs.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, install and maintain production equipment from basic hydraulic equipment to complex CNC machinery, performing both electrical and mechanical work.
  • Complete projects such as mechanical and electrical hardware and software upgrades, calibrations, and retrofits.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, level, plumb bobs, and straight edges.
  • Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop tools and equipment.
  • Review production specifications, identify and report capacity restraints.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Maintain and acquire new technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, and establishing personal networks.
  • Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventative maintenance for CNC grinders and Platit Coating machines.
  • General Building Maintenance and Custodial Duties.
  • Compliance with local laws, industry standards, Environmental, Health, and Safety requirements, and relevant ISO certifications.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Highschool diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or 6 months industry related experience and/or training.
  • Certification from a qualified training institution in the field of machine maintenance is ideal but not required.
  • 2+ years of equipment maintenance in a machine shop environment is required.
  • Experience with CNC repair and/or robotics is required.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office knowledge and/or Computerized Maintenance Management System is desired.
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Strong analytical and problem solving ability.
  • Ability to perform maintenance functions such as replacing spindles, ball screws, bearings, slides and other components of machine tools.
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize daily workload based on capacity and customer demands.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Excellent communication, project management and organizational skills.
  • Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, fluid power, and control systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform electrical, mechanical and hydraulic repairs used in electrical and mechanical maintenance technician work assignments.
  • High ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and perform repairs.
  • Ability to follow diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions and engineering specifications.
Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of standing with some lifting, bending, and twisting. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to stoop, bend or kneel when required.
