Machine Maintenance Technician

Full-time Regular Reading, OH, US

3 days ago Requisition ID: 1235

Machine Maintenance Technician — Aerospace & Defense Manufacturing
Keep the Floor Running |First and Second Shifts | Second Shift | Industry-Leading 25% Night Shift Differential

When the Machine Goes Down, You're the One Who Brings It Back.

At GTC, our precision aerospace and defense production runs on some of the most sophisticated CNC and manual machining equipment in the industry — and the Machine Maintenance Technician is the person who keeps it that way. You're not just fixing things when they break. You're preventing the break, reading the diagnostic before the alarm sounds, and getting equipment back to production faster than anyone thought possible.

If you're the kind of technician who finds a complex electrical schematic interesting and a finicky axis feedback system a puzzle worth solving, this is where your skills belong.

And through our Ownership For All program, every machine you keep running, every breakdown you prevent, and every hour of production you protect builds something that's genuinely yours. Every eligible full-time employee receives an ownership stake in GTC. From day one, you're not just joining a team. You're becoming an owner. Your wins aren't just good for the company. They're good for you.

Second Shift | Industry-Leading 25% Night Shift Differential

We built our shifts around real life, not the other way around. Days start between 5 and 6 AM — 10-hour shifts that get you home while the day still has plenty left in it. Nights kick off at 5 PM and come loaded with our industry-leading 25% night shift differential. Pick Monday through Friday at 8 or 10 hours, or Monday through Thursday at 10 or 12 hours. More flexibility, more earning power, and a schedule you actually choose.

Retirees, you're welcome here too — part-time schedules on days or nights are available, with a benefits package included.

What You'll Do

  • Maintain manual and CNC machines in satisfactory operating condition to meet production and quality objectives — keeping preventive maintenance on schedule and on standard
  • Diagnose and repair equipment failures quickly and effectively, returning machines to production as fast as possible without cutting corners on the fix
  • Perform preventive maintenance as required, staying ahead of the problems that shut lines down
  • Read mechanical drawings to understand, disassemble, and rebuild machine components with confidence
  • Use levels, granite squares, and column squares to check and mechanically align machines back to original specifications
  • Follow and troubleshoot electrical schematics using digital voltmeters and oscilloscopes to trace faults to the source
  • Troubleshoot axis feedback systems including inductosyn, resolver, encoder, and linear scales
  • Work with CNC control diagnostics — Siemens, Fanuc, and Heidenhain — to identify and resolve machine control issues
  • Conduct linear accuracy checks using laser equipment and circularity checks using Renishaw ball bar
  • Order parts needed to complete repairs, coordinate with machine service organizations when the situation calls for outside expertise, and keep maintenance records accurate and current
  • Identify and eliminate waste in maintenance processes — always looking for the smarter approach and seeking additional work when capacity allows
  • Build close working relationships with operators, supervisors, production control, and fellow maintenance personnel — because when the floor needs you, communication is half the fix

What You Bring

  • High school diploma or GED required; an associate degree or certificate in industrial maintenance is preferred
  • Minimum of three years of hands-on equipment maintenance experience on both manual and CNC machines
  • Solid mechanical knowledge of bearings, ball screws, gearboxes, pumps, hydraulic systems, and lubrication systems
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and follow basic electrical schematics with confidence
  • Proficiency with digital voltmeters and oscilloscopes for electrical troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with CNC controls — Siemens, Fanuc, and Heidenhain — and the ability to use control diagnostics effectively
  • Knowledge of axis feedback systems including inductosyn, resolver, encoder, and linear scales
  • Experience with laser-based linear accuracy checks and Renishaw ball bar circularity testing is a strong plus
  • A cooperative, team-first attitude and the initiative to help the people around you succeed
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures
  • Flexibility to work extended hours or weekends when urgent maintenance needs arise — because production doesn't always wait

Why GTC

A maintenance role where your full technical range gets used — mechanical, electrical, CNC controls, precision alignment, and everything in between. Work performed on sophisticated equipment for aerospace and defense programs where uptime isn't optional. A team that respects the people who keep the floor moving and knows exactly what it costs when they don't. And through Ownership For All, a real stake in the production you protect every single day. From day one, you're not just a maintenance technician here. You're an owner.
