Job summary

Smurfit Westrock Company is seeking a Maintenance Technician for the 3rd shift (9pm-5am) in Spartanburg, SC. You will install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical systems on plant/production machinery, following safety protocols and completing required paperwork.

The role emphasizes reading electrical schematics, maintaining PMs, and collaborating with maintenance crews to minimize downtime while meeting operating requirements. A license in electrical work is preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of related experience and/or training.
• Experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and understand electrical schematics.
• Ability to read and understand mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
• Excellent people skills and communication, both verbal and written.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Strong work ethic with emphasis on safety.
• Electrical License or Journeyman Electrical License preferred.

Responsibilities

• Follow all safety and Company policies and procedures including maintaining good housekeeping, reporting any issues immediately.
• Complete regular inspection of equipment to identify mechanical/electrical issues or concerns and disassemble, repair, replace bearings, seals, gears, etc.
• Complete all paperwork neatly, correctly, and in accordance with Company guidelines.
• Analyze, trouble-shoot, and repair mechanical problems of plant machinery using precision maintenance techniques and follow up with work orders.
• Perform maintenance function and troubleshoot to correct inefficiencies and prevent equipment downtime by completing regular PMs.
• Work within specifications and drawings, ensure completion on time and minimize waste.
• Ensure the maintenance and preventive maintenance of plant process equipment to meet operational requirements.
• Work with maintenance crew to carry out maintenance and repair projects in mechanical, fabrication, plumbing, and welding functions.
• Comply with Company policies and procedures and all applicable laws including OSHA rules.
• Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization including management, employees, and vendors.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems including hardware/software troubleshooting and PLCs.
• Read schematics and trouble-shoot pneumatic, hydraulic systems, PLCs, and motors.
• Maintain a well-organized, clean work environment and good attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Pay Range: $30.02-$36.03/hr (depending on experience)

The opportunity

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for installing, trouble-shooting, repairing, and general maintenance of mechanical systems of plant/production machinery.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock

• Follow all safety and Company policies and procedures including maintaining good housekeeping, reporting any issues, accidents, or incidents immediately. Must complete online safety training each month as assigned.
• Complete regular inspection of equipment to help identify mechanical/electrical issues or concerns and disassemble, repair, replace bearings, seals, gears, etc. as needed.
• Complete all paperwork neatly, correctly, and in accordance with Company guidelines.
• Analyze, trouble-shoot, and repair mechanical problems of plant machinery using precision maintenance techniques. Follow up with work orders to ensure the problem is repaired properly.
• Perform maintenance function and troubleshoot to correct inefficiencies and prevent equipment downtime by completing regular PMs.
• Work within specifications and drawings, responsible for ensuring completion, minimizing waste within set dates and times.
• Ensure the maintenance and preventive maintenance of corrugating plant process equipment to achieve results, ensure all equipment is running properly and meets operational requirement.
• Work with maintenance crew to carry out maintenance and repair projects in mechanical, fabrication, plumbing, and welding functions.
• Comply with Company policies and procedures and all applicable laws and regulations, including federal and/or state required environmental systems, OSHA safety and health rules, fire and electrical safety codes and manuals, and standard operating procedures.
• Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization including management, employees, and vendors.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, computers in an industrial environment including hardware, software configuration and troubleshooting, network configuration and troubleshooting.
• Read schematics and trouble-shoot various pneumatic, hydraulic systems, PLCs, and motors.
• Demonstrate strong maintenance, plumbing, electrical background (manufacturing preferred) in AC/DC motor control, troubleshooting, and electrical wiring codes.
• Maintain a well-organized, clean work environment.
• Maintain good attendance Must be able to work flexible hours and/or extended hours if needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What you need to succeed

• Minimum 2 years of related experience and/or training.
• Previous or current electrical and mechanical maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and understand electrical schematics.
• Ability to read and understand mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
• Excellent people skills and communication, both verbal and written.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Strong work ethic with emphasis on safety.
• Corrugated experience preferred.
• Electrical License or Journeyman Electrical License preferred.
